Start/finish: MoorIZ car park, Am Hohen Kopf 3, 21776 Wanna The short circular trail begins and ends at the MoorIZ car park. It leads through a varied, man-made cultivated landscape on the raised bog. This is noticeable from the very first steps, as the ground is springy and elastic. The moor path begins with a section between the tracks of the moor railway and the Ahlenrönne, a main drainage ditch of the northern Ahlenmoor. Here it is shady and pleasantly cool, even in the heat of summer, thanks to the tall trees on the banks of the ditch. The next section in the open countryside is peppered with interesting stations, a hand peat cut, the peat moss field, a knoll dam and footbridges on wet ravines. Rarer inhabitants of the moor can also be seen here, sometimes cranes, moor lizards or fire butterflies, at other times perhaps dazzling dragonflies and lush mosses. The third section of the trail is a sandy path in full sun. The sand is covered in animal tracks; foxes, badgers, pheasants and deer can often be spotted and, with luck, many more.
