This magnificent circular hiking trail is entirely dedicated to Germany's only shield volcano - the Vogelsberg. Basalt, solidified lava from former eruptions, can be found everywhere. The route has a few more challenging climbs at Stornfels, the "Old Castle" and up the Schlossberg in Ulrichstein. The route follows earthy forest, woodland and meadow paths; near the villages it also follows gravelled forest paths. You should take sturdy shoes with you and in wet weather it can also be slippery. The start and direction of the walk can be planned individually.
