A diversion is worthwhile! Accompanied by fantastic views over the Habichtswald forest, you hike on to the idyllic Silbersee lake with a rest area and even a campsite. After crossing the main road (watch out!), you soon reach the historic Igelsburg basalt cone, climb the Dörnberg, from the summit of which you have a wonderful view over the North Hessian mountains, and follow the high trail to the Dörnberg Nature Park Centre. Here you will find nature experience stations, lots of information about the Dörnberg nature reserve and a place to stop for refreshments. You conquer the Helfensteine and pass the Bühl natural lake with barbecue area, playground and bathing area. You return to Kassel from Ahnatal-Weimar railway station.
