Großer und Kleiner Steinkopf

Start the route via the car park in Kottenbach, opposite the Göbels Hotel bus park. Continue along the Kottenbach, past the Schützenhaus Rotenburg and follow the slight incline until Haarnadel leads south-westwards around the Großer Steinkopf mountain. Follow the well-surfaced forest path into the Guttelsbach valley. At the lowest point on the Guttelsbach, the path leads eastwards for approx. 1.4 km through the valley with a moderate gradient up to the contour line towards Alheimer Berg and leads northwards directly to the hut below the Alheimer. The descent is via the signposted contour line in the direction of the Rotenburg Cardiovascular Centre - past the Nadelöhrhütte, Alter Turm and Katzenkopf. Once you reach the upper HKZ car park, you can follow a small path to the west at the end of the car park, past the farmed "Alm" and return to the Kottenbach car park.
