The Bremerhaven Nature Tour: water, wind and meadows. They first emerged from the waters of the Weser in 1739 - two sandbanks that have since grown into Bremerhaven's largest nature reserve: the Luneplate. The land with animals and rare plants worthy of protection was only recently bought from Lower Saxony. This is because the plate serves as an ecological compensation area in the course of the harbour expansion. The 1,000 football pitches of grassland remain closed to motorists. This is why the Luneplate forms the centrepiece of the nature trail. But because Bremerhaven has so much more greenery to offer, this tour is also perfect for a cosy picnic. The tour starts at the main railway station, which is the last opportunity for the time being to stock up on some refreshments.
