Weißenburg nach Gunzenhausen über Spalt

Challenging MTB tour in the Free State of Bavaria. This special route leads into the Altmühltal Nature Park. The start is in Weißenburg. The route heads northwards through green meadows and floodplains until the previously green landscape gives way to the urban landscape near Pleinfeld. Along the way is the branching and fabulously beautiful Mandelweiher pond. The following body of water, the Große Brombachsee, is a reservoir and, together with its two upstream dams, the Kleiner Brombachsee and Igelsbachsee, forms an amazing lake system. To the north of it, the recreational town of Spalt is well worth a detour. This town is well known as the hop metropolis of northern Bavaria in the middle of the Franconian Lake District. The route continues westwards to Gunzenhausen before heading north. At Dittenheim - the Schnitzlerholz and Bergholz information points are worth a visit here - the route returns to the forest and leads back to the starting point via the industrial area of Weissenburg.
