MTB: Über das Trockental nach Heiligenstadt

Beautiful MTB route in Franconia. It goes into the Franconian Switzerland-Franconian Jura Nature Park, one of the largest nature parks in the whole of Germany. The start is in Köttensdorf near the brewery pub, where you can also stop for a delicious meal. Heading south-east, past the beautiful Lohntal natural forest reserve, you reach Heroldsmühle. But before that, you reach the dry valley of the Leinleiter at Hohenpölz. This only carries water sporadically and is accompanied by hunger wells and tummlers, e.g. the "Kleiner Tummler" and "Große Tummler". A truly unique area: it is hard to imagine that there were once waterfalls here. What remains are dry watercourses that can be traced back to the cold periods of the Pleistocene. Finally, you reach the beautiful little town of Heiligenstadt and the Pavillon viewpoint. From here, the return tour starts via Reckendorf, Heroldstein and later Pünzendorf until you reach the starting point. It is also worth making a detour to Greifenstein Castle and the ruins of the Gothic chapel.
