From the starting point - the hikers' car park opposite the Neideck ruins - the route leads to Streitberg and then enters the Leinleitertal valley in Gasseldorf. Well-maintained cycle paths lead through beautiful countryside to Heiligenstadt. From there - in the direction of Kalteneggolsfeld - there is an approx. 3 km long ascent to overcome. For mastering this, you are rewarded with a very beautiful descent on a tarmac path through the middle of the forest, which takes you in successive serpentines to Frankendorf. There you can see an unusually large number of beautifully renovated Franconian half-timbered houses.
