Jurasteig Stage 10: Deining - Holnstein

This route follows stage 10 of the certified "Jurasteig" premium trail, connecting Deining with Holnstein on a pristine, spring-rich section. Right at the start in Deining, a tiny 50-meter detour leads to the historic rock cellars carved into the sandy Dogger stone. Shortly after, an abandoned quarry fascinates hikers with the vibrant colors of the exposed rock. The trail then follows the protected White Laber Valley, which boasts a marshy, wild, and romantic landscape. After a peaceful break at the idyllic Sippelmühle mill and an ascent to Sternberg, the path leads right through the spectacular "Land of 1,000 Springs" (Land der 1000 Quellen)—a biodiverse haven home to cuckoopint wildflowers, fire salamanders, and kingfishers. Passing the refreshing Marienquelle spring near Simbach, the route continues through shaded hillside forests toward its destination in the picturesque village of Holnstein. Cozy refreshments and accommodations are available at the Sippelmühle, in Simbach, and directly within historic Holnstein; wild camping is prohibited.
