Hirschenstein und Vogelsang ab Metten (MTB)

Varied mountain bike tour in the Bavarian Forest Nature Park, Bavaria This tour is very challenging due to the varied altitude profile, but absolutely worthwhile. The MTB tour starts in beautiful Metten and leads via Schloss Egg, Hofstetten, Amtsfleck and Dampfsäge up to Schuhfleck. On this section, the route follows the cross-country ski trail and you reach the Hirschstein from the north, the highest point of the tour at just under 1,100 metres. From the summit, you follow a beautiful trail back to the Schuhfleck. This trail is very difficult at the beginning with S2/S3 and blocked. At Schuhfleck, take a forest path uphill to take the direct route to Kalkeck. The next trail is already waiting here, which turns into a gravel road halfway down to Kalteck. From Kalteck, head back up to the Regensburger Stein (just under 1,000 metres above sea level) and continue towards Vogelsang (short forest trail to the Holzhackerhütte). You pass a meadow and turn into hiking trail no. 8 in the forest. This trail leads over wooded, rooted and stony terrain down to Oberhirschberg and is difficult to recognise in places. This is followed by a further ascent to Faßlehen and briefly in the direction of Leithen and Hilling. The trail leads along a beautiful route until just after Schneiderried, before it becomes a fairly wide forest track of just under 1 km in length due to logging work. After that, you can enjoy another beautiful trail before returning to the starting point. Afterwards, you can round off the day with a delicious meal in the monastery restaurant in Metten.
