Popular stage of the long-distance hiking trail "Goldsteig", Bavaria.
The Goldsteig trail runs below Haidmühle (1 km) towards the former Triftklause at the foot of the Dreisessel before leading hikers to the next ascent. The view from the summit of the Dreisessel is a reward for the very steep section in the last third. After a refreshment stop at the refuge, one of the most beautiful and interesting Goldsteig sections lies ahead of the hikers: The Adalbert Stifter Trail leads over the rocky slopes of the Steinernes Meer with huge slabs of rock and granite boulders. In ideal and clear weather conditions, you can even see as far as the Alps from here. The Goldsteig crosses the Austrian border - then back into the valley - shortly after the Lackenhäuser campsite. After approx. 8 km in Austria, you cross the border stream into Bavaria, come to the Hammerschmiede forge on the Gegenbach and climb the Höpfelberg a little way up to today's stage Breitenberg.
