This hike starts at a car park in the Isar valley south of Mittenwald. The Brunnsteinsteig trail leads steadily uphill for three and a half kilometres. During the summer months, a nice stop off point is at the Brunnsteinhütte before making the leisurely descent back into the Isar valley. Optionally, the route can be extended with an ascent to the Brunnsteinspitze (2180 metres above sea level). The return journey follows the same route.
