Wüstenrot to Löwenstein

The hiking trail starts in Wüstenrot in the Franconian-Swabian nature park. Wüstenrot can be reached by bus from Bretzfeld and Schwäbisch Hall every 2 hours, even at weekends. At the start of the trail in Wüstenrot, the audio guide provides information about the building society museum. Shortly afterwards, you will reach the bird of prey enclosure at Spatzenwald and a high ropes course. Via the blue dot markings of the Swabian Alb Association, you reach the former silver mine. On the connecting path from the Silberstollen to the Wellingtonien, you have to conquer the "Himmelsleiter", a Douglas fir tree trunk from which 66 steps have been carved. On the rest of the hiking trail, you are greeted by the giant trees at Wellingtonienplatz. These are 100-year-old sequoia trees that were imported from America and planted by King Wilhelm in 1865. A barbecue and football pitch with several seats and huts invite you to take a break. There is a spring 200 metres away, which also feeds the water treading pool. A relaxing walk through the water refreshes your feet. You then take a leisurely stroll downhill along a serpentine path to the outskirts of Spangenbach, cross the country road and walk uphill to Greuthof. A steep, near-natural path takes you back to a country road. Now you have to gain height again in the Löwenstein mountains to reach the Löwenstein Clinic via forest and woodland paths. Passing the clinic on the left, the route descends towards Löwenburg. Shortly before reaching your destination, you can enjoy a marvellous view and take a break at the rest area above the castle. A visit to the castle is recommended.
