The first section of the route does not have a cycle path.
Only after the turn-off to Hofsgrund does it become quieter - and the landscape much more beautiful. You now cycle for around 6 kilometres through a beautiful high valley with gradients of up to 10-12 per cent. It's a crisp climb. Shortly before the finish, the road leads to the last 2 kilometres to Schauinsland, which you reach in a rather unspectacular manner in the forest. A 10-minute walk to the viewing tower takes you to the summit - with great views of Belchen and Feldberg to the south and the Rhine plain with Freiburg to the north-west.
