Kinzigtal cycle path stage 1: Freudenstadt - Hausach

Stage 1 of the Kinzigtal cycle path in the Black Forest. The Kinzigtal cycle path is something for real pleasure cyclists and is suitable for everyone thanks to its freedom from barriers. Following the River Kinzig, you cycle through the unique forests, meadows and pastures of the Central Black Forest, past former Benedictine monasteries, glass-blowing factories, impressive castles and much more. The first section of the first stage from Freudenstadt to Alpirsbach has a difficulty level of 3 - it contains unpaved sections over forest ground and quite steep gradients of 8-12%. The first stage leads from Freudenstadt to Hausach and is only partially barrier-free. For people with wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, wheelchair handbikes, therapy bikes and child trailers, it is recommended that you only join the route from Alpirsbach and skip the first 24 kilometres. From Alpirsbach, the stage has a difficulty level of 1-2 and leads mostly downhill on tarmac paths with only a slight gradient of 1-6%. The narrowest sections between Alpirsbach and Hausach are 100cm wide. Barrier-free WCs can be found at Schenkenzell town hall, Schiltach railway station (with Euro key), Restaurant Hüttenklause, Café Flößerpark and the Wolfach tourist information centre. Barrier-free refreshment stops include the Hotel Winterhaldenhof and Hotel Waldblick. In Halbmeil, the Gasthaus Löwen and several restaurants in Schiltach are accessible in summer (but without barrier-free WCs). Other places to stop for refreshments include the Kurgarten-Hotel Wolfach, the Hüttenklause restaurant (with WC), Café Flößerpark (with WC) and Giannis Terrazza ice cream parlour in Hausach. Barrier-free train stations include Schenkenzell train station (with car park), Schiltach train station (with car park), Halbmeil train station (with car park) and Wolfach train station (with car park). There are further barrier-free car parks at the Dorotheenhütte Wolfach and the Tourist-Info Wolfach. Barrier-free sights include the Wittichen monastery, the Schenkenburg ruins (close to the route), the historic old town of Wolfach, Hausach town hall, the parish church of St. Mauritius Hausach, the Black Forest model railway in Hausach and the "Erzpoche" open-air mining museum in Hausach. Therapy bikes can be hired from Trendcamping Wolfach.
