The circular trail is part of the Hegauer Kegelspiel and leads from the foot of the Hohentwiel around the Staufen to one of the largest fortresses in Germany. The Württemberg exclave of Hohentwiel Fortress was the former residence of Swabian dukes and the Württemberg state government. Even today, it offers a marvellous view over Lake Constance as far as the Alps. It is also surrounded by an idyllic nature reserve and offers fantastic views over the volcanic landscape of the Hegau.
