This hike leads through the heart of the Upper Black Forest and connects Germany's highest railway station in Bärental with the unspoilt nature around the Feldberg. The route begins in Bärental, a tranquil neighbourhood known for its traditional Black Forest farms and small schnapps museum. From there, the trail winds its way through the Feldberg nature reserve, the oldest and largest of its kind in Baden-Württemberg. In the dense mixed mountain forests of spruce, fir and beech, rare plants such as the yellow gentian and the carnivorous sundew grow in the raised bogs. With a bit of luck, you might spot chamois on the steep slopes or the rare capercaillie in the undergrowth.
