This challenging hike leads up to the 1,414 metre high Belchen, which is often described as the most beautiful panoramic mountain in the Black Forest. The tour starts at Münstertal railway station.
The trail initially leads steeply uphill through dense mixed mountain forests and along alpine paths towards Hohkelchsattel. A particular highlight is reaching the Belchen summit, which lies above the tree line and offers a 360-degree panoramic view as far as the Swiss Alps, the Vosges mountains and the Upper Rhine plain. On the rocky northern slopes and sub-alpine grasslands, you may be lucky enough to spot chamois and rare plant species such as the Swiss bellflower. As the route covers a few metres in altitude and the paths are rocky and steep, especially in the summit area and on the descent via the north side, sturdy footwear, a very good level of fitness and surefootedness are required.
