The highlight of the hike is the 30 metre deep Holzbach Gorge. You walk through the gorge on a narrow path past basalt boulders and torrent-like sights. The landscape is otherwise characterised by a constant alternation of forest and meadow passages. Some of these routes follow sections of the Westerwald-Steig. Here you can expect enormous variety and attention to detail. Winding paths lead along idyllic streams.

This route is stage 4 of the Westerwaldsteig; it leads from Rennerod to Westerburg.
