The Barnim Nature Park covers around 750 square kilometres and is the only large protected area shared by Brandenburg and Berlin. Extensive forests, numerous lakes, moors and almost untouched river valleys characterise its varied landscape. The Ackersöllen - small circular bodies of water - are home to the nature park's heraldic animal, the fire-bellied toad. Historic field and brick buildings, waterways and the remains of Slavic and German castles bear witness to the history of the region.

Wandlitz is home to the Barnim Panorama visitor information centre, where you can find out about nature conservation and agriculture, among other things. Opening hours are daily, except Friday from 10 am to 6 pm (admission up to one hour before closing time).
