The Steigerwald Nature Park is the centrepiece of the Franconian Keuperland. It begins in the Haßberge mountains in the north and extends to the Franconian heights in the south. The nature park covers a total of 129,000 hectares and extends over six districts. Outstanding forest stands, special features such as the middle forest or hute forest management, but also floodplains or dry and nutrient-poor grassland areas form the habitat for a special diversity of species.

The Steigerwald Centre Handthal welcomes visitors from April to October from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 and from November to March from Thursday to Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00. Admission is free. Visitors can experience the topic of sustainability up close in an exciting exhibition with interactive hands-on stations for all age groups.
