The route connects the municipalities of Alpen, Sonsbeck, and Issum in the Lower Rhine region. The landscape is characterized by the Sonsbecker Schweiz, a moraine ridge formed during the Ice Age. A prominent feature is the Dürsberg, where an observation tower stands above the surrounding mixed forest. The terrain consists of wooded hills and adjacent agricultural fields.
