Bring lots of water and snacks! Also, it can be very cold and windy when you reach the top so a sweater or jacket and even a hat would be good to bring with you. If you haven’t spent much time in Quito yet, take it slow or the altitude will really hit you. When you reach the summit, the view is spectacular! Definitely well worth the trek!

Amazing trail in Ecuador.

Beautiful walk. I walked from Quilatoa to chigchalan, stunning views of Lake and valley. Took me 3 hours (decent speed). All down hill except last 30 mins. Buses leave chigchalan for Quilatoa every 2 hours.

do not go this way. A section of the trail near the northern end is destroyed by a landslide which had active rockfall when I was there. There is no safe way across the landslide. I managed to go around it but this route is not a safe one either as it requires climbing skills and ideally ropes and equipment. Even without the landslide this is not the recommended route due to a steep slope with loose soil. Instead a parallel path though the village of La Moya should be used.

I forgot to start recording until part way up. It was cloudy at the bottom, but when we summited, we had perfect views of all the volcanoes around us. The summit was covered in ash and we could see the lava flow from the 2018 eruption. Excellent hike!

Started this hike in the morning while the weather was nice and sunny. There are light green signs/arrows along the way although a few were fading or hiding behind bushes. Stunning scenery with amazing view over the many lakes of the park. Hike itself is classed as difficult on the park map. We thought it to be moderate on the way up and a little trickier down as it was so muddy you were slipping and sliding (and falling) most of the time. Nice hike, however did not stand out as one of my favourites in Ecuador.

This is an amazing trail that is covered in wildflowers. A helmet is required as the trail near the peak gets fairly steep and rocky and there is some danger of falling rocks. However, the cold and wind were definitely worth it!

Started the hike at 10.20am after getting one of the first gondolas up. Hike starts nice and easy with a few uphill slopes. If you want to summit, you will reach a point where the hike becomes a bit more challenging with a few small rocky scrambling sections. Shortly before the summit you climb a very steep sandy slope. To summit you have two "paths" - one scramble is the easier option whilst the 2nd would lead you to ridge edge that requires more technical climbing. Bring layers! We went on a sunny day but it was a white out cloud at the summit and absolutely freezing. Whole hike took us around 5 hours with a very leisurely walk back to the gondola. This was our first summit hike but we absolutely loved it and it made for great acclimatization.

It was quite hard because of high attitude and bad trail. On the most places are rolling stones or sand and might be slippery very easy. But it is worth it.

Absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and I are not regular trekkers and not use to high altitude. We went slow and felt out of breath a lot of the way, especially at the beginning. The view makes up for it. It took us just over 4 hours.

Nice moderate trail, took us about 4hrs to complete the long loop which is 12.5km around the lake. I recommend going counter clockwise. You get nice views of the lake from the get go and some steep ascents and steps at the beginning. Towards the end of the hike it's a nice gentle downhill through forest. Make sure to bring a warm layer as the forest side did get chilly and it started raining slightly. Definitely a nice hike to do in preparation for higher elevation and stamina :)

Well-worn paths and prominent trail markers. Moderate scramble required near the peak. Gloves and insulated jacket are strongly recommended as the last 100m become quite cold/gusty, especially when clouds are present. Descent from peak following down-scramble is soft-sand over rocks, approx. 40-50 deg slope.

well maintained trails. the road up to the cable car is 5km.bring coins or small notes. It's necessary to take the cable in and out and the last car back leaves at 4:30pm. The map is a little confusing but there's only 2 trails, both are moderate with a bit of mud and stairs. I saw a Toucan and many butterflies, flowers and insects.
