Nice paved trail. Lots of people out enjoying the nice weather. The river was dirty and full of trash.

Awesome park just 7 miles from Charleston.

Great hike along a beautiful ridge line. However the trial is too congested. I suggest going early in the morning or during the week so you can really appreciated an isolated view at the top.

Great trail to start first thing in the morning before sunrise and after the hike you can treat yourself to coffee at The Black Dog Coffee Company

First mile was hard but worth it. After that it wasn’t bad. I highly recommend using trekking poles. This trail is very rocky be prepared. Take a camera the views breathtaking.

The first mile-ish is very steep and challenging but the rest is mostly easy to hike! Views are very worth it.

Hiked part of the trail with my German shepherd today. It was nice and cool out with not many people out. Saw a few hunters in the distance. It was really pretty with all the leaves on the ground.

Great uphill to start the hike, then a smooth walk along the ridge to a great view. Accurately rated and well kept!

There are a few wild flowers along this road. I have only walked maybe 10 miles on it from its starting point. This converted rail bed to walking/ bike path is an easy walk, but you are pinned in on both sides by private property. It's well used in the spring and in off season people allow their dogs to run free, they use that verbal lease yelling at the dog to come back, that was the annoyance. But to be far there is no one using it in the off season. I did not find this trail to be all that great, I guess it must get a hell of a lot better someplace else. I saw no access to the river unless I trespassed on private property.

This trail has some of the most spectacular views around. It offers a 360 degree panaroma at the top that is incredible. Well worth the hike which itself isn't too hard.

An ok section of rail trail. Just past Monongah going toward Shinnston there is a trailer park. An owner had let her 4 dogs out and they seemed pretty aggressive so I had pepper spray in hand. She called them back so it was ok.

Nice hike, well maintained. Dog friendly. Great views in the Fall and Winter. For a great afternoon park in the lower lot and hike to the top, then go just a little further on surface road and get a bite at Lola’s (great pizza) or Bridge Road Bistro.

Gorgeous views of fall foliage.

Stunning views! This trail is officially one of my favorites! You have a great view pretty soon after reaching the top of a steep uphill trek. Then, Big Schloss at the very top is just breathtaking with so many places to overlook the mountains. And if you hazard the big boulders at the end, you get, probably, a good 300 degree view of the mountains. Just incredible! Definitely wear good ankle support and have a pole or walking stick if possible. Lots of loose rocks on the trail but totally worth it!

It was so great! Uphill and rocky for little bit but then evens out and the view is incredible.

Did get off the path once but reading prior reviews and using a map helped! Great hike!

Super rocky, have supportive shoes! Great views!

Excellent hike with some amazing views!!!

Leaves are falling and changing color. Very pretty. We took the tunnel out and then back on the tunnel trail above and the ‘detour’ trail. It was steep coming back that way for part of it.

This trail is great. Well maintained, dog friendly, kid friendly, resting places, and gorgeous scenery right in downtown Charleston. love it!

well maintained and very dog friendly!

Like others have said, it's all uphill and rocky at the beginning. But the views on top are amazing, especially with the current fall foliage! I would definitely recommend this hike but maybe not in the middle of summer when it's hottest. Pretty crowded but honestly not too bad for a nice Saturday in fall.

First mile is fairly challenging with continuous incline and rocky terrain. View along the ridge line is gorgeous and easy. Pretty heavily trafficked. Definitely take all the short side paths along the ridge for the best views!

Great beautiful trail. Flat for miles so I would not say it is moderate unless there is a part I did not see.

Trail starts off steep and rocky, with little to offer in the way of scenery... About a mile in the trail reaches the ridgeline, opening up fantastic overlooks. Hiked mid day, not much wild life to see other then numerous dogs that accompanied hikers on the well traveled out and back trail. The trail eventually leads to a bridge which takes you to a outcropping of rocks, that offer 360 views of postcard worthy Virginia scenery, making the hike well worth the effort. The way back is a breeze, and easily completed in a fraction of the time.

Fun, relatively easy hike with some steep sections on the Tunnel Hill trail. The tunnel was very cool. Dark but phone flashlight sufficient. Trail out and back was about 1 1/2 hours ( 5 miles)

Tunnel path is flat and the tunnel is a nice change of pace. Beautiful scenery but take a flashlight for the tunnel.
