Great hike on a 50 degree December day! Did this with my wife and thought it was a real gem. Trail was a bit muddy in spots, but overall not too bad. Great open vistas at the top when you hit the meadows. Must be beautiful in the spring. Would definitely come back to find out.

Great overall hike - definitely use the gps map as a guide! Had cell service the entire time. Use the map to find the rock overlooks, which are signaled by the short black paths on the map. Dog friendly!!

Higher elevations than expected and leaves made it more difficult. Maybe better in spring and summer

Nice trail, well marked. Only issue is since its fall all the leaves are down making for some slippery sections. Good m sure its nicer in nicer weather

There are a few wild flowers along this road. I have only walked maybe 10 miles on it from its starting point. This converted rail bed to walking/ bike path is an easy walk, but you are pinned in on both sides by private property. It's well used in the spring and in off season people allow their dogs to run free, they use that verbal lease yelling at the dog to come back, that was the annoyance. But to be far there is no one using it in the off season. I did not find this trail to be all that great, I guess it must get a hell of a lot better someplace else. I saw no access to the river unless I trespassed on private property.

around noon mid-late November. this trail is pretty great as long as you start at the trail head past the playground at McKeever lodge. there is a great rock cliff at the end to the right called 'heritage point'. we accidentally went part way the other way because we forgot from last year but its a great view no matter. it gets a little steep by heritage point but doable. the leaves are a little treacherous on some of the trail and the rocks (because of the fire road) crumble under you some but still a great trail with the family!

This trail is beautiful in the fall but we ran into some hunters and heard several gun shots. There are no postings saying to wear orange or that this is a hunting area. We were about a mile out when we ran into the hunter. Definitely scary but a beautiful area

Trail in fair condition. Varying from Muddy to leafy to asphalt. Nice section from Clover lock to Marlington. Great fall colors. No cell service so download directions ahead of time. AT&T has service in Marlington. Verizon did not. End your ride at the dirt bean restaurant and bike shop for a well deserved beer or coffee.

Great beautiful trail. Flat for miles so I would not say it is moderate unless there is a part I did not see.

10/05/19 - We rate this trail as EASY to Moderate. A party of 2 adults pushing 50 & 2 teens - Parking ? The pool was closed so we parked there. The trailhead starts somewhere around the pool. It’s not marked or we missed it? Using the AllTrails map. We followed the paved road down to the lake and took a right at the beach. Follow the Blue blaze and you’ll be fine. The trail is wide and well marked with signs and blaze. Very nice hike with views of the lake. Trail conditions were very dry when we were there. A few low places look like they could be muddy. Watch out for poop bombs! Horses and Dogs frequent this trail. The trail ends at the spillway. Follow the trail back up to the paved road. If you’re in the area we recommend you check it out- nice trail.

Great hike! Beautiful scenery. I want to do it all again!

Beautiful day for a fall hike. We have been to Dolly Sods in early summer when it is very wet and muddy, and found the conditions today to be much better. A bit rocky at times, so be careful not to twist an ankle... but a fairly easy hike overall and perfect for seeing the beginning of the fall foliage.

Seemed almost manicured for most of the hike, nice hill and workout, but much much less wild than others in area. Not too difficult other than finding the blazes marking the trail.

This is a flat, well marked, wide path. Very well traveled. There are areas with access to the river, some have rocks making steps down to the river (easier) and some are steeper and more challenging. There are benches periodically along the path, as well as at least one bathroom building that is kept clean. There is wildlife around (deer bear etc) but most stay clear of the path. Bear cub was seen around mile marker 7 recently. Beautiful well kept trail overall, good for all ages and experience levels.

Only did 7 miles of this trail on bicycle, but it is gorgeous and easy to follow. Can’t wait to go back and do more of it it the future. Nice that they allow camping on the trail.

Was an alright trail on the down hill parts. Up hill was way tougher then easy. Most of the uphill climbs I had to walk my bike. I am a relatively novice rider. On the other hand I’m a very in shape person with a small body stature. I’d love to run this trail but probably won’t bike again. Especially I make my mountain bike rides more of active recovery from other workouts. First turn left was hard to spot had to double back. After you get through maybe 20-30 yards of high grass it opens up

Me and 3 pals are SO excited for a late September 4-day trip, coming up... we are staying night before at Gillium house B&B and they are taking us to trailhead. .. Night #2 is at State park lodge, day #3 at Blennerhassat hotel in Parkersburg (Island mansion afternoon tour and a Ghost tour in evening!!!!) then back to State park for night #4 - this time in a st pk cabin, then back to trailhead whre our gracious day #1 host will take us back to our truck. "the Log House Homestead B and B would have been nice too but its all booked up! Credit card camping is the way to go- this vacation will probably cost us less than 300$ per girl!! will let you know how it goes!!!

Nice hike with some great views. Alltrails map is needed as this trail isnt blazed, but it's super easy to follow with the downloaded map. Only passed two other hikers on a clear Sunday afternoon, peaceful and quiet. Not many steep inclines, moderate at most.

What a great rail trail with plenty of amenities. Several blowdowns after sever storms but the park service was quick to clear the trail . I traveled with a group of boy scouts that cleared several trees from the trail and cleared a path through a large section of blowdown. Highly recommend.
