1/12/20 - very little traffic and we were delighted at the quality of the trail (my wife, my dog and myself). The overlook was lovely and the cave is just plain neat. I imagine this trail becoming a seasonal trek for us.

One of the best trails in DC, NOVA area. Many challenging places, always go with a small backpack. Due to high traffic never got to come and the same way. Saw a rattle snake closer to the top of the trail.

Backpacked the loop clockwise starting from the west end. Had to bushwack from Jeremy's lane to avoid postings. I don't recommend that way... not worth the trouble. I'll park on Skyline Drive next time. Loved the hike and camping near the creek. I did 18 water crossings in total... Had to wade through once. The crossover from Jeremy's Run to Knob Mountain Trail is probably about 1/4 mile upstream from what it shows on this map.

Nice trail that is clearly marked and wide. In some places it is rocky and steep, but the payoff at the tower is remarkable.

Much better than the last time I did this. All blow downs were removed.

Not an overly difficult hike except for the distance. Gradual incline, not too much scrambling or super steep sections. I'd definitely recommend this one though as it's a really interesting mix of highland meadows and almost a Pacific Northwest feel.

Hiked 1.12.20. It was a beautiful 65 degrees today so I decided to hike this trail. Unfortunately, I was hugely disappointed. As soon as I parked at the small pull off on 42, I was greeted by the sound of gun shots from the nearby shooting range. Not exactly the peace and quiet I was looking for. However, I trekked on, excited to see the views from the fire tower at the top. About a mile into the hike, the trail runs along a “creek,” which appeared more like a river today, I’m guessing due to melting snow and recent rain. This was all fine until about 1.5 to 2 miles into the hike, when you had to cross said “creek.” There was easily 3 feet deep of fast moving water to cross to get to the other side. I walked up and down along the creek to see if there was an easier place to cross, but no avail. Dishearten, I ended up turning around and headed back to my car. Would not recommend after recent rain.

We did this hike on New Years Day. Took us exactly 5 hours - this is including our start from and our walk back to the lower parking lot. It was wet/muddy/icy in spots when we visited which slowed some people down and caused a bit of a pedestrian traffic jam. Bring gloves and shoes with grip for the rock scramble. Steep at the start but push through and be amazed by what we like to call the adult playground.

Most of the trail was covered in water but passable. First time here and seemed like it would be a nice hike that's family pet and bike friendly in better conditions

Tough hike. The view fro mute top is partially obscured during the leafy times, in the winter however you get a bit of a broader view.

Beautiful hike! Wear old shoes for all the mud & dress warmer for the top! Very windy, but perfect views all the way around and overlooking Roanoke!

Typical trail off the skyline drive. Nice gentle downward slop until you hit the falls. The very steep with many steps placed or carved in. Creek and falls were full of water and looked great. Encountered 15 or so people mostly in small groups. Trail well makeres and maintained aside from the 3-4 fresh tree falls. 3 creek crossings by bridges. Arrived at parking lot at 1030 and there were plenty of spots. Fewer as I came off trail.

I really enjoyed this hike despite the rain and muddy trail. The views are beautiful and love all the massive rocks. We hiked .6 to Wilburn Valley View and that was worth it too. I would like to come back sometime and go primitive camping.

Fun hike with variable dips and climbs
