Beautiful winter hike! I took the Monroe trail to the summit. Packed down snow the entire way. Microspikes and poles were helpful but not essential. Snowshoes weren’t necessary. Recommend!

Beautiful but be sure to bring crampons and tracking poles. My microspikes was not really sufficient.

Spectacular trail! We took it December 26th, 2019. There was still snow on this north-facing slope leftover from the Thanksgiving and early December storms. We saw numerous ski tracks from people who descended from Pico to Sherburne pass along the trail. The temperature was low to mid 30's, and there is plenty of both running water streams and ice on the trail, so microspikes or the equivalent are required. As others have noted, the last pitch from the cabin to summit is pretty steep, and if you are on this section during ski season, be prepared to jump off the trail fast. Two skiers came down while I was making my way up. Views from the top are good, but the summit is fairly industrial, with the comms towers and chairlift. I'd rate this a moderate hike. If there is significant snow cover, snowshoes with good crampons would be necessary.

Superbe randonnée hivernale faite en février 2017. Très enneigée mais nous nous n’avons pas utilisé de raquette. Montée soutenue mais pas trop difficile. Très venteux au sommet. Belle vue panoramique.

Nice trail. Very heavily trafficked though. Gets pretty steep in some spots. Pretty long, too. View at the top is incredible, 360° of Vermont.

Two of us hiked to summit Nov 10. Some snow on trail but not slippery. Beautiful view from Brownsville Rock. Trail was easier than expected. Under 5 hours total. Very enjoyable.

Road to the parking lot was washed out, had to park at the overflow. Trail was in pretty good condition, a little ice near the top, didn't need to use my microspikes, but it wouldn't have hurt. left the monroe trailhead at 9am summited at noon, lots of wind, rained on the way back.

Was going to enter in from Burrows Trail, however road was washed out from store few days back. Went in up Camels Hump road trail head and took Monroe up late am. Lots of washouts and trees down, snow covering icy path on the way up. Tread carefully. This was yesterday of course, was very cold towards peak and we never peaked. It had gotten far too windy and it was a complete white out. Made it to the monument, had lunch, and headed back down carefully but with haste as it was snowing really good. Can’t wait to come back!

Great trail with amazing view. Difficult and slippery in spots if you take the straight shot down.

Oct 26- very muddy, slippery & wet leaves, but a beautiful hike, mossy woods and a nice pond to eat lunch :) up + down trail

This hike is throughly challenging and rewarding. We went up Halfway House Trail to the Long Trail then took Sunset Ridge back down. Would recommend taking this route because Halfway House is fairly steep. Some icy conditions at the top, but overall not dangerous or scary for my afraid of heights partner. Only thing I would have done differently is brought gloves for the alpine tundra - all in all amazing 360 views of the mountains and immensely rewarding. Hiking the ridge on Long Trail is an unbelievable experience.
