Moderate. Trail goes up up up. Falls is beautiful and worth the hike. Pack a lunch and water, take a few breaks and enjoy.

Super awesome & beautiful! I lost my charging case for my Jabra Sport true wireless headphones today. It’s grey and approximately 2” X 3”. I may have lost it in the women’s restroom at the Sugarland Visitor’s Center too. If you find my case, would you please call or text me at (805) 748-4689? I’m from CA and fly home this Friday, the 24th. I sure would appreciate it. Thank you.

Did the trail in Nov 2018. Liked the trail, but too many people. Not an easy one.

So much fun to run! Definitely technical with some rocky areas and tree roots and muddy in spots, so gotta pay attention. Some moderate uphill. Very pretty, nice views of the lake.

Easy day hike with beautiful views. Hiked on a clear day and then on a snowy day... both experiences were so cool! Layer up for wind. It can be warm in the parking area and then freezing wind on the summit. Plenty of parking for winter season. Clearly marked trail.

Beautiful falls and mostly easy trail. Be prepared to climb a heck of a lot of rocks down to the falls and then back up to the trail. Personally wasn't a deal breaker for me, since the falls were so great and the rainy weather cooled me off, ha!

Super fun hike. Felt a bit like a scavenger hunt. Totally worth it. Enjoyed the entire trek all the way to the falls. A little icy this time of year, but really not bad at all... just be careful!

This trail earns the “steep as a mule’s nose” award. Well worn and at times slick due to fine loose gravel. Many parts require scrambling. If your in good shape you’ll make it and be rewarded by a stunning view. The trail can also be accessed from Holston Mountain trail if you prefer a less steep but longer route to the overlook. On this day the trail was dry with a dusting of snow on top. The access road is gravel with plenty of large potholes.

It was challenging for the shape I’m in but it was very enjoyable and worth the view in my opinion!

Great trail I did it 1/22/20, I was in a little bit of a hurry so I went up in two hours and came down in two hours – beautiful scenery lots of snow lots of ice at the top, difficult but really really pretty.

Beautiful trail. Water was gushing today. Glad the bridge over Laurel Creek has been replaced! My GPS tracked only 5 miles to Laurel Falls and back. Fun hike!

Started out wanting to do the 4.5 mile hike. It is very nice trail, lovely views, creek crossings and beautiful cliffs. As someone else has stated in past posts, this trail was not very well marked. As you were walking it is obvious you were on a trail and there are several trail markers but when trails converge it is difficult to know which direction you should go. I ended up doing 5.5, somewhere around where the Overlook and the swan site trails converge I went the wrong direction. I do not regret it, it was a lovely hike just longer than I expected. I will do it again.

Trail currently modified due to construction of a visitor center, but waterfall overlook accessibility still good. Read the signs and follow safety rules. Hiked here many times, and never tire of the beauty of this river and forest.

Does anyone know if this is 11 miles up or 11 miles up and back down?

This was an enjoyable trail as I am beginning to get more into hiking. Without any training before the hike, I found it relatively easy although it was a bit challenging in the current shape I’m in. The trail was in excellent condition but it does have some serious drop offs near the falls.

Don’t go expecting a clear trail! This place is great for creek hopping, and the “trail” will get you about 3/4 a mile up the creek side, but after that, there is no distinct trail. We have gone to the falls via the creek bed in the summertime, and it’s a great adventure! But for winter hiking, there is definitely not a trail to follow. Still a great place, just a warning as to what you’re getting yourself into!

Fantastic trail that follows the river and climbs a ridge to provide you with panoramic views. Good for birdwatching. Beware of ice during the winter—a few spots on the trail were slick from spring water that ran over the path and froze solid overnight.

Great trail - a perfect mix of historical sights, tumultuous & clear mountain creeks, and a unique waterfall. We’ve hiked it during the peak of spring wildflowers, as well as in the snow, and both of those hikes have been our favorites in the Smokies. Be warned, the road to the trailhead is poorly maintained and may give your small cars some trouble.

This was a great trail. FYI: Some roots were overgrown and there were several log bridges to cross.
