Wonderful, challenging hike all the way from the car to the summit. It was quite cold today, 20F at the summit so that made it more challenging for me. I'm giving this 4 stars because the trail is full of brush and downed trees. It's quite bad and made it difficult to hike out after dark as I did today. So keep that in mind.

I loved this trail. Only 2.5 miles but fairly demanding going down to and back up from the falls. Beautiful and, best thing, part of the AT.

Moderate. Trail goes up up up. Falls is beautiful and worth the hike. Pack a lunch and water, take a few breaks and enjoy.

Beautiful falls and mostly easy trail. Be prepared to climb a heck of a lot of rocks down to the falls and then back up to the trail. Personally wasn't a deal breaker for me, since the falls were so great and the rainy weather cooled me off, ha!

There is thick ice on the trail approximately 0.7 miles in and we had to turn back because we didn't have any spikes. But the distance we managed to walk was totally worth it because just before the ice started the views were great :)

Does anyone know if this is 11 miles up or 11 miles up and back down?

Great trail - a perfect mix of historical sights, tumultuous & clear mountain creeks, and a unique waterfall. We’ve hiked it during the peak of spring wildflowers, as well as in the snow, and both of those hikes have been our favorites in the Smokies. Be warned, the road to the trailhead is poorly maintained and may give your small cars some trouble.

This trail was a lot of fun because it’s mostly rocks and tree roots on the trail, not a lot of flat walking. You do have to constantly watch your footing and it’s a pretty gradual incline most the way up. A lot of the trail was covered in ice, which made it a lot harder. I wish there had been some better views a little further up. There’s a nice clearing about 0.5 miles in and then it’s mostly wooded. I’d say unless you’re going on to the Jump Off or Charlie’s Bunion, stick to only going the first 0.5 mile.

This is an absolute great hike. My 8 year old son made the hike with us in the snow today and it was great family time. The Falls were definitely a site to see covered in snow and ice.

trail was fun but a bit too difficult for us. next time we'll try in nicer conditions

gorgeous hike. one of the marked trees is down but it's so well maintained you won't have any trouble finding your way

Muddy, poorly marked, and lots of down trees. Pretty flat and boring, but the spring at the mid point is very cool.

This is definitely a worthy day hike. I would rate this trail as a moderate, maybe a moderate plus, but definitely not hard. My wife and I did this hike today and was pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed it. The trail was in good shape despite being wet from the previous nights rain. It’s almost all uphill til you get to the falls. It is rocky and there are a couple trees across the trail at different points. However non of these were anything other than an inconvenience. The falls were beautiful and we were able to find a large rock to sit on and have a little lunch. Highly recommend this trail.

So fun but very tough, even for the experience hiker!

I’d skip leg day at the gym if you’re planning on hiking this trail. There is a beautiful overlook but is closed off shortly after that. Also arrive early to any of the longer trails because the parking lots fill up fast!

Trail was well marked and in good condition.

This is the first time we have hiked this trail and it is one of the best/prettiest hikes we went on. The trail was very easy up to the first falls and it was a little more rocky on the way up to the 2nd falls but definitely nothing too extreme. Falls were beautiful!! Our husky also loved it! It was very cold. Freezing! At the top there were icicles on the rocks. We went just after a rain so it the falls were gushing with water! Will definitely be coming back in the summer to hang out by the falls and play in the water!

a pretty trail with a couple of great lookout spots. can be a little steep in places and the (I assume) rhododendrons get a little overgrown here and there. but a well maintained and marked trail

It was cold and had freezing rain on this day. We didn’t get the normal great views from Charlie’s bunion and the ridges on the way there but definitely got to feel the full force of Mother Nature with the freezing rain, rain, and 20+ MPH winds.
