on Fuji Shelter Trail

Snow was a bit soft so it added a level of difficulty but there was plenty of snow and fantastic views. Thank you to Meandering Goose for the log wall. We wondered how intentional that set up was and it definitely worked to keep the heat in- and I dare say, kept the stove free from the 4-5 ft of snow that the hut was buried in! We had to break an opening through a snow wall to get in and it was nice and dry in there!

I loved this loop! Once you get past Angel’s Rest there is basically no one up there. There's a path to the right before you get to the Angel's rest summit that brings you up to Devil's Rest and then a trail on the right before the Devils Rest summit that starts the loop back around. I just followed the map from there (they have signs/maps posted that are easy tomdigure out). It took me 4.5 hours with all of the snow and it was a bit more effort then I was expecting (should have brought more food!), but I loved it. Having some snow gaiters and yak traks probably would have been helpful, but I did just fine with my trail runners. My gps said it was just under 12 miles and 3100 ft of elevation starting at the main Angel’s Rest parking area. The views were spectacular and the ever changing trail ie mud, snow, dirt, rocks, sections of stream, change in elevation, etc kept things interesting. I'd love to come back and do this loop in the spring and summer!

Only bad comment I could make is: one hiker with two Dobermans (off leash) tried to kill my golden-doodle (on leash) . She replied “Sorry, it’s an off leash trail” I think it’s off leash, if your dogs are controlled. Otherwise, love all the pick as you go and make an adventure trail system. Lovely

A great lite hike with bright green moss covered trees and continuous sounds of running water. Waterproof shoes recommended winter months .

1/20/20: Completed long loop snowshoe. The park is off the beaten trail and less crowded with plenty of parking on this holiday weekend. Trail was quiet, and I did not run into other snowshoers until the end. The beginning/end is fascinating if you catch it with the right amount of snow...mammoth white mounds on top of the dark lava fields. Trail pleasantly undulates through a forest with lodgepole, ponderosa, and (I believe) fir. Some big ponderosa pines are in sharp contrast to the snow with their cinnamon bark. This loop is just under 4 miles. Dog friendly, which is nice. Less pristine than Meissner or Swampy, IMO, as the forest is less grand. Expect a little yellow snow and the occasional poop bag tucked away. Definitely worth checking out if you’ve done the others, want something different from a geologic standpoint, or simply want some time with your pup.

Great trail for a day hike near Portland. It was a little muddy in some spots but we managed to get around it. Green everywhere and enjoyed the sights

A beautiful and fun hike. we really enjoyed it and recommend the hike. We had to go through several seasonal streams. The trail is pretty rocky and I was glad I wore boots. I wished I would have brought my hiking pole.

Absolute gorgeous walk in the woods. There are many surprises at each turn, but today 01/20/19 was slushy and icy. Shoes with rough tread and trekking poles are recommended. It was warmer today, so I didn’t really need gloves or a hat, but a drop in temperature would call for bundling up. :)

INCREDIBLE! We lucked out and came on a Sunny Warm Saturday in January! The parking lot was reasonably full, but there were a few open spots. There was a lot of snow and branches on the forest road going up, but our AWD CRV didn’t mind a bit. It didn’t feel crowded but we encountered many fellow hikers. I could imagine this place is crazy in the summer. The trail is squishy and muddy in many places, so bring proper hiking boots. We came upon the bridge, which affords views of the torrential waterfall, then crossed and came to a landing where you can view the suspension bridge and the waterfall. Finally, we wandered down a little footpath down to the base of the waterfall area where there’s plenty of beauty to absorb. 1/19/2020

Only hiked about two miles in to the bench. Took my 7 year old and the pup! Very easy hike with all around amazing views. Some snow on trail from last weeks snow storm. Seemed to be melting pretty fast though.

easy, lots of people but it's a holiday. saw the sheriff.

A good neighborhood trail. All gravel, cool, old abandoned cars make for good pictures.

A great easy+ path that has tiny elevation gains to kick it up a notch. Lots of families and frisbee golfers and dog walkers. We did the loop twice it was so pleasant!
