My recording is from Tellico Gap to NOC. What an awesome section of the AT! Abundant views throughout the trail and the fire tower on Wesser Bald is pretty cool as well!

Went back in September 2019 and had a great time! Drove up yesterday (December 2019) and the entrance from Clyde McDonald was closed. Not sure if this is a seasonal closure; I've had trouble finding official information on this place online. This area is private property and connects to a FS road. When the gate is open, they have a sign that says it's open for the public's enjoyment.

First time offroader, first time truck owner(4Runner). I decided to take a trip to Uwharrie to test the capabilities of the vehicle and to try to learn the ropes on some of the more simple trails. As it turns out, this past weekend was the last weekend prior to closing for the season. There had also been rain for a few days prior. This made for some muddy and slippery conditions BUT IT WAS AWESOME! I have built my Runner with a 3.5" lift, extended travel suspension and sliders so far and let me tell you this thing tackled FAR more than I would have ever dared had I not been invited to tag along with a bunch of Jeep folks! Did Falls Dam, Wolfs Den and Dutch John. We would have conquered more but we got bottlenecked at the muddy Dutch John hillclimb which got the better of a for Jeeps and Land Rovers and needed winching BUT NOT THE RUNNER! Truly amazing experience!

The real reward in this is definitely the view points along the way. Boring hike with lots of switch backs, BUT still worth it if you make it to the beach.

A nice dirt/gravel trail that you can take your mom's minivan up and it will be fine. Good views and a cool tunnel at the beginning.

It's pretty much a long driveway with little spots for people to park their cars. It's a little bumpy in some spots and it ends in a pretty cool tunnel. Oh, and watch out for bikers.

Well kept OHV. Permit was $5 from a near by gas station. Only route 1 and 8 are open to trucks/Jeeps as the other trails are too skinny and steep. Stock Titan Pro4x 4x4 had no issues other than slight scrubbing on skid plates. Rocks were smooth and puddles weren’t deep. Expect a bumpy and off camper ride on trail 1. Got truck on 3 wheels multiple times. Some ascents were tricky, however a stock 4x4 will make it.

Excellent trail. Was the first off road adventure for us, and it was well worth the ride. Just take it slow and know your limits.

Very pretty area but just a dirt road through the woods. Could drive with virtually any car.

Decent forest road that ends just below the Blue Ridge Parkway. Head east on Blue Ridge once off the trail to find an amazing overlook. Especially at sunset. Definitely a very easy trail, but short and worth the quick ride.

lots of camber action with plenty of easing going parts as well. Disconnected the sway bars and gave her room to stretch her legs, had both my girls with us. easy enough to take the family. running in 2010 JK on 33s.

Really cool spot, shows where the heart of Murphy comes from! Definitely a spot to see some animals/birds. Bobcat area for sure! Bring some form of protection just in case. There is trash but what people have to realize it’s a dam that fluctuates water levels 10 to 15 foot ( guesstimate just from evident water lines on rocks), and water collects all types of debris in the process. The other 5 percent is purpose trash lol MUDDY! If you live in Murphy it’s a must to see!

These trails are all excellent for Jeeps, ATV's, Side-By-Sides, and Dirt Bikes. if you are a dirt biker, I'd stay away from any trails with a star next to them, unless you want a REAL challenge. 5 Stars. 10x better than Busco Beach

Couple places were a challenge to get up and over rock ledge. All of trail was rocky mostly and slippery sand on and around rocks but not deep sand. Was bumpy most of trail. Fun and nerve wracking at the same time. Store across from trail that sells passes not open very often. I got pass in Lenoir at Cubbard express convenience store. It’s $5 for one day at that trail only or 30 for annual pass. They were out of maps. Only trail 1 and part of 8 are open to jeeps and passenger cars. Make sure you have good clearance. Saw one other jeep, two Toyota four runner and two motorcycles. Was a Wednesday.

I have seen some cool places, and this exceeds all by far. I have never wanted to immediately return to a place after I left it more in my life. I decided to visit Cape Lookout the hard way...handed in a float plan with the National Park Service in Harker’s Island, packed 4 days worth of food and gear into a 16’ canoe, and paddled the 2.5 miles across the crab sanctuary to the barrier island, solo. You can day ferry it over, or take the vehicle ferry with your 4wheel drive...all roads on the island are sand. Sea turtle nests everywhere...very cool. Great sea wildlife. Birds everywhere. Heron, egrets, American oystercatchers, sanderling, pelicans, royal terns. Every night at low tide the softshell crabs come out of the water by the hundreds. Did I mention best seashells on the east coast? Found a great cosmo helmet shell, so many knobbed whelks I couldn’t fit them all in my daypack. Sand dollars, scallops, clams, oysters. Another reviewer mentioned how tough it is to walk in the sand...completely agree. It’s like walking through deep snow with no snowshoes everywhere the sand is dry. The abandoned village is cool, bring the best bug spray you’ve ever bought. Shade is only created by clouds, or your own shade. If you go towards the trees, you go towards the bugs. The sea breeze keeps the bugs away from the beach. There is potable water, there are restrooms and outdoor showers. The NP rangers are the nicest people on earth, had some cool convos with random folks I bumped into. The water is teal, the waves are awesome, the stars are endless. Bring everything you need with you for whatever length of time you plan to spend, and take everything back out with you because a treasure like this is fragile. This place is heaven if you enjoy a truly primitive beach experience. It’s basically the desert surrounded by water, but so much to see, can’t wait to return...very soon.

more than a couple of tricky spots. traversed with a tacoma 3" lift on 33s" made it Ok bottomed out a couple of times no damage. Was fun but not for beginners. couple of jeeps I passed said no way. suggest decent tires and suspension.

Completed the full trail with a stock wrangler. No oversized tires or lockers needed. Fun easy trail with only a couple tricky spots. Worth a trip.

This trail/road had TONS of trash and was flooded past the water works. It looks like lots of partiers and/or homeless people are out there doing goodness-knows-what when it’s not flooded. I’d stay away at night for sure. (I was there during the day with my dog). Note that cars drive on it to the sewage plant at least.

Was a nice fishing spot but a bit harsh on the Jeep going though...needs to be cleaned up at the fishing point...a lot of litter.
