A moderate winding hike on the Reservation leading to its highest summit with views of the Hudson River (see my trail description above).

A nice, easy, winding hike on the Reservation (see my trail description above).

Beautiful trail. Still some snow, snow melt made it pretty soggy in some areas and icy in others. We didn’t need micro spikes. Colder at the top but a pretty mild day overall.

Long and steep. 19 miles , 12 hours 20 minutes. All water crossings were frozen so we walked across. Bridge over Hudson is still there but bridge over Opalescent is gone and crossing when water isn’t frozen might be a nightmare depending on water level and temperature. Plan on getting feet wet if water isn’t frozen. I haven’t done this any other time of the year but from what I’ve heard of the mud and slime I’d highly recommend a winter hike to avoid what sounds like a headache. The best part of this mountain in the winter was being able to butt slide down about half of it. This is a very hard hike. Trail is boring and basically flat until the base of the mountain where you climb over 2000 ft in 1.5 miles. I wouldn’t suggest doing it unless you are doing the 46. Good luck.

Did this hike on 1/26 from Uncan road and hiked in. We had to break trail the whole way. Couldn’t see much at top bc of snow and fog

Easy and nice! Yellow trail is the most beautiful, as it passes along two lakes- however red and blue go deeper into the woods, so you can’t hear the highway, and you feel more remote/secluded.

Nice and open for sure. So, so much more to explore. Dog friendly.

Testing out new gear and pack on the snow. Very little traffic through the snow and peaceful for being in the middle of a neighborhood

Nice hike for the senior citizen. Going counterclockwise the first 1.8 miles were interesting. rolling hills not very rocky easy. The next 1.5 miles contained 2 steep ascent and 2 descent. It was a very nice day.

I know the reviews say there’s no trail but seriously.. there’s no trail. No way to really tell where you should be walking, at least in the snow. We turned around about 1.5 miles in

The beginning half of the trail is part of the AT, which means it’s generally well maintained. However, once you get past the halfway point into the Yellow trail, the markings become more difficult to follow. The last segment wasn’t well marked on the descent from the mountain. But we figured it out. Not too icy, but could easily be after any precip.

The warden said, “storm is coming!”

A nice, easy hike on the Reservation (see my trail description above).

Pretty and woodsy, but a tangle of trails that have no good map. The DEC and carriage trails are easy enough, but once you go into the biking trails, it’s hard to figure out where you are. Though there are SMBA markers, they don’t seem to correspond with colors on the map, and there are no names on the trail to help you navigate. If you’re exploring make sure you have enough daylight in case you get lost... like I did

Great for exercise but super disappointing when you come across the posted signs at about .8 miles. Couldn’t make it to the launch site so it was a bummer we had to turn around so soon. I wouldn’t recommend hiking unless your looking for a quick incline work out.

Don't usually do reviews but I thought a trail condition report would be helpful: On 1/16/20, there was about 5 inches of fresh snow on the trail between Bump's Pond and Erebus (Official Summit) that was readily handled with microspikes. Most of the streams running on the trail were sufficiently frozen over (though not all). There was no mud.

magical this time of year with icicles covering everything. decent traffic on the trail today, but spaced out enough that i had most of the hike to myself. def need micro spikes. was a wonderful hike, windy in some parts, but the views were spectacular
