This was a pretty serious hike. Highly recommend doing some rocking climbing practice for when you get near the top, pants and trekking poles. I made a video so you can see what to expect. https://youtu.be/zYoL2itZiPQ Or just search Brian Bear Butler, the video title is pretty obvious.

Worth going to the end point. Watch out for explosives in sand...

Not bad at all, I went about 2/3 of the way up before it really got ice-y, muddy. Gorgeous views, nice hike.

Great hike with the doggies. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen and have sunglasses. Bring plenty of water for you and your pets. Please, please pick up your dog poop!! If you don’t you’ll ruin these parks for the rest of the responsible pet owners!!

Good trail run at least a 1/4 is smooth. It’s crazy how many people bring toilet paper and leave it used on the ground. Nice camp at halfway point.

there is no parking anywhere near the trail head.

This was a great trail! The snow/ice was melting so it was VERY muddy for about half the trail, but it was still beautiful and not too challenging. I would highly recommend!! Took us about 4 hours to complete!

This trail was so enjoyable! Of course, everything was pretty dead. It was a little muddy here or there but was generally dry, and the only ice that gave me trouble walking was the 1/2 mile connecting the Tramway trail to La Luz. Loved the hike. Everything looked beautiful in the sun on the way back to the trailhead.

Hiked this trail for the first time the other day and was quite impressed! You start out in a desert environment with yucca, sotol and cholla plants, and as you climb in elevation you start to hike underneath pine tree groves. The view is spectacular in all directions. Looking East, you can clearly see White Sands and Sierra Blanca peak in the distance. To the West, you are right up against the beautiful Organ Mountains.

Hiked on 1/19/20 I loved this actual trail, but rating it lower bc of the access to the trail. Not marked well to find it, and you need a gate code to get in which the Pecos National Historic Park welcome Center can give you in person or over the phone. Though, bc it’s tougher to find, it’s a nice peaceful, secluded hike with trail markers. We hiked it in fresh snow, however, so it was much more of a cardio strain than hiking a plowed trail, and the only “trail” we had to follow were the other 2-3 foot tracks that came before us, otherwise trail is not visible at all. Trail is loosely woody, so good amount of shade cover. Restrooms (non-plumbing) & trashcans available are the foot rail & lots of informational signs along trail about the Civil War and battles over territories.

I really liked this trail. There are some nice mountain and desert views. I didn't do the guided tour into the cave(need a reservation), but you can hike the trail to the cave entrance without a guide. It's a trail worth doing if you want something to do outside of the main Cavern. The trail is short but it is uphill the entire way. 500ft in roughly half a mile is fairly steep.

It's a nice cave system. The cave has a lot of unique formations that you won't find in any other cave. Defiantly enter through the natural entrance. You can take the elevator out, so you don't have to make the hike out.

Parts are a tad overgrown, but outside of a couple sharper turns, it's fairly well marked. there were a handful of man made stacked rocks to mark occasional parts of the trail. all in all, very quite, not too hard, although proper footing is needed at points. Trail gets thin at times near some edges. Amazing views up top!
