Very nice trail some ups and downs definitely more moderate level trail then I expected but definitely worth it!

I hiked this today with a friend and it was a moderate difficulty, I would even say for an avid hiker it is on the easier side. Very little elevation change but can be rocky and muddy at times. Despite it being winter, although today was an unseasonal 70 degrees, and all the trees being dead, it was still a beautiful hike. No vistas to speak of really, just a walk through the woods. I could see this being very pretty in the Spring or Fall. Pretty clearly marked although we did get off trail for a minute somehow. It was easy to get back on. All said and done it was a solid hike -- great for if you just want to get out in the woods and don't want to overexert yourself. Took us just shy of 3 hours for a 6 mile total. Oh and plenty of parking plus a portajohn in the lot. I gave it three stars because there are definitely more beautiful hikes out there with better scenery, but this one is very much worth a visit.

Wow the incline made me fart

Great trail - hiked in January. Not to cold out but smart to bring extra layers on this hike. Lateral scrambles for majority of hike along water. Vertical ascent towards the end of trail was challenging, lots of steps. Well marked. Bring plenty of water.

Steep stairs and 5 dogs seen. Is it really no dogs? Great scramble went south side first but muddy but gorgeous on a 60 n windy day

I've enjoyed this hike a few times. Best to go on a weekday if you can. The weekends get way too crowded.

Favorite trail! Didn’t realize though that we took the harder way around to the stairs of death lol. Shocked to see so many people with sneakers on! I would suggest hiking boots. Beautiful views but not meant for small kids all the way around. Definitely will be coming back

Good hike, some areas are muddy so waterproof shoes/boots recommended

Great, straight forward winter walk in the woods.

Great trail system. Well marked. Lots of rocky foot paths so recommended solid support shoe if you’re going to do whole loop.

The hike starts out pretty easy on Patriot's Path but gets a bit more technical on the Red and Green trails. I hiked this when ice was beginning to melt from a prior ice storm, so the footing was sketchy in some areas due to icy wet leaves and rocks. There was a lot of recently cleared blow downs on Patriot's Path which left it in great shape. However, there were a lot of blow downs on the Red and Green trails. The only really challenging conditions were on the Green trail along the Black River. The trail is narrow and cut out of a steep side slope. There were a few spots in this area where the trail was impassable due to downed trees and branches. I was able to bushwhack around these areas but the steep slope and icy conditions made it a bit tricky to detour. For those hiking in winter, be careful of your timing/daylight, as having to bushwhack will slow you down. The only real downside were the usual bags of dog waste left on the trail or hanging in the trail side bushes. I'll do this hike again in the spring - and will see if it gets as crowded and overrun with dogs as I suspect. Nice winter hike, though.

12.12.19. Magical day for hiking — clear, cold, trees shrouded with snow. This is a beautiful hike, with a bit of everything: the elegant Cooper Mill in Chester, ruins, the gorgeous Black (Lamington) River, woods, open fields. Pretty straightforward, low effort, high reward. Start at Cooper Mill, follow Patriots Path, then Red, then Orange trails, before rejoining the Patriots Path. One thing: the map says Green Trail, but in reality, the blazes here are orange. My stats: Distance: 7.1 miles Elevation Gain: 761 feet Moving Time: 2:25:08

Such a fun hike!! A lot of work- my legs we’re super tired by the end. I won’t need to use the stair master for a while :) Our dog handled the scramble well- but this is not one for older or small dogs unless you want to carry them (you don’t). The boulders are tricky. Waterfall half way through is a nice spot for a snack and a coffee (if you bring with you!). I’ll do this again. The views were very pretty.
