A little muddy and icy after the rain we’ve had but that also provided plenty of icicles on the bluffs.

A little muddy and icy after the rain we’ve had but that also provided plenty of icicles on the bluffs.

Peaceful hike through the chilly temps. Very little wildlife and some water covering the trail in spots due to recent weather.

The loveliest little trail within an hour of Rolla. Typical of the regions karst topography, the rocky and wet single track skirts the aptly named Clifty Creek, alternating between hardwood slopes, ledges and bottoms, occasionally crossing tiny streams, evergreen brakes and elevated viewpoints. The trail descends directly to the creek in a few areas, providing easy access to gravel bars and limestone cliffs dripping with run off, preeminent among them the natural bridge, under which a side branch enters the main stream bed. To complete the loop you will wade the creek twice in high water. Contrary to the AllTrails description here, the “right” trail fork leads most directly to the natural bridge, from where you must decide to cross the creek or return the way you came. Open views through the canopy make this a great winter walk.

Great trail. Pleasantly surprised. Map on this app does not match the trail in places, so make sure to pick up the trail map at the head of the trail.

Worth it to see the falls. The trail is very rocky and was completely flooded when we went. Luckily we had waterproof hiking boots because it was basically like walking in a shallow creek the whole way. But of course this meant that the falls were amazing! We did the whole loop in less than 2 hours. It’s a nice bonus that the highest point in MO is right on the way!

The trail was clearly mapped out, nice overlooks, but bring waterproof shoes because you have to cross a small stream twice. Took us 56 minutes to complete. Would recommend.

We love this trail so much! Still gets a 5 star but today it was very flooded. It rained a ton last night so there was muddy spots and in the lower sections the entire trail was covered in water, basically a creek. The creek you have to cross was really flowing rapidly, we were able to cross in one area. It was beautiful tho. The water rushing everywhere was so peaceful sounding. Little waterfalls all over. The beautiful moss covered rocks and trees. Love it!

This is an easy trail that feels like wilderness even though it’s right in the city. It was lovely, even in winter. We did this loop and then most every trail in the whole park in just one morning.

Loved this trail during the summer so thought I’d come back. Due to the recent rain it’s VERY muddy along the river and the end is washed out if you’re trying to do a counter-clockwise loop.

Hiked this trail with three kids. 7,6,5. The low temps froze the mud, so it wasn’t too slippery, but once the temperature rose, it got slick! We had one time where the green arrow pointed in two opposite directions and luckily we chose left/downhill so we were able to see the “cave” with a spring coming out of it. I’m still not sure where the other trail would have led us, I never saw a fork after that, as I was expecting the other green path to tie back into the trail we took. On that last section, before the cave the bridge was closed, so we had to cross the creek on foot. There was a lot of up and down and crossing over creeks and springs. Downed trees to climb across for the kids and a lot of moss to give a magical feel. Overall, it was a fun hike!

Didn't finish because the little dog got tired. had to cut through. But as always beautiful trail

Nice trail. Well established and blazed. Couple creek crossings, some nice views from bluffs, and a cave. Even though it’s near Columbia, the only civilization I experienced was right at the trail head near 163. I found entire trail head is included feel to it. The other trailheads are well hidden off gravel roads right by the trail. I recommend this trail.

Not a bad hike with a little tiny bit of elevation for Missouri. Pretty muddy but to be expected with the warm weather and all the snow melting. Crossed a few little creeks, which may even be dry in the warmer months. Not a bad little quick hike.
