Hiked to bean and bear lake on January 11th half in boots half in snowshoes although not entirely necessary but recommended. Beautiful hike and would definitely do it again. Only saw two other hikers the entire time. Trail was well marked.

unable to walk on most or all trails in the winter, all for cross-country skiing.

This was quite a beautiful hike, when I went I had the entire place to myself, the trail was very packed snow, didnt need snowshoes or anything. The second you step off the trail it gets a good amount deeper tho. Overall a very moderate hike, the elevation gain at the end is pretty quick, the only downside is the top doesn't have a 360 view.

The path does not quite match up with the trails I encountered here in the winter. Lots of little bridges and hills to make the hike more interesting. Parking is fairly limited, and the biggest lot I found does not match up with the listed start/stop by the bathrooms.

Another nice early winter hike with a little snow and a little ice. Peaceful and quiet. Not busy while I was there. Saw nobody else on the trails.

Still one of my favorite hikes in Itasca...can complete in under an hour if your moving quickly. nice elevation change and great opportunity to see some of Itasca's lesser known lakes

Hiked in mid October...fun little trail. best hiked in August if you enjoy eating wild raspberries and blackberries

Not dog friendly in winter?

This is a well kept park with lots of great picnic areas , as far as finding a trail though you are on your own. No trail specific signs, after you get frustrated you just end up walking on a bike path or horse trail :)

So much rushing water. The steps were totally fine. Cool spot. Dress warm.

Best route for late November - pretty oak forest and birch, river views, prairie and forest.

This is currently the open section of the Hiking Club Loop trail. Some trails closed due to erosion, washouts, standing water, etc. The NW portion of the Grassland Trail has wood planks and pallets to walk over the muddy stops.

path was clearly marked and maintained, scenic. campsites were clean and nice with nice lake ventures

Our hike was a cold morning, which was nice because the mud was mostly frozen. There were multiple mud spots throughout. Also, the plank bridges over water were slightly submerged. This made getting through more challenging. It didn’t stop us, but it may have for others. It is a very rocky trail also which gave the feet a good workout. Hiking/trekking poles and waterproof footwear a must! A beautiful hike!

Had some nice overlooks of Lake Superior and miles of forests, and views of pristine lakes and rivers, but unfortunately we were up to our shins in unavoidable mud right around the halfway point. I would suggest starting at the White Sky trailhead and hiking to Lake Agnes out-and-back, if you're just looking for a slightly moderate day hike.

Amazing hike! Gorgeous scenery, especially in the fall.

Lovely quiet walk among the towering trees. Past peak fall color, but sporadic pockets of yellows and red could still be found. Lots of whitetail deer running throughout the words; even had a bald eagle soar right overhead. Lots of trail markers to make finding your way quite easy.

This was a fantastic place to see in the fall, there was multiple trails for you to pick from. My fiancé and I went the longest two that connected and went to the zoo and ended back at the park and it took about 2 hours. Will always go back when in the area!
