Snowshoeing trail lightly trafficked. Beware last section on river. Great time

Hiked to bean and bear lake on January 11th half in boots half in snowshoes although not entirely necessary but recommended. Beautiful hike and would definitely do it again. Only saw two other hikers the entire time. Trail was well marked.

Still one of my favorite hikes in Itasca...can complete in under an hour if your moving quickly. nice elevation change and great opportunity to see some of Itasca's lesser known lakes

Best route for late November - pretty oak forest and birch, river views, prairie and forest.

path was clearly marked and maintained, scenic. campsites were clean and nice with nice lake ventures

Gorgeous trails! Love the scenery, hills, and colors. Highly recommended!

Great views! Highly recommended bringing an extra pair of shoes, clothes, and towels for when you get back to your car, especially if you are a little clumsy like me and slip in the mud

Great hike! Not too developed, so it truly felt like a moderating challenging hike. Views of the lake throughout, hiking though forests and more open areas.

What a fun combination of hills (quite steep in areas) and flat terrain, prairie and forest. Lovely hike with many different options for trail path/length. Definitely will go back to take in more of the beauty!

First and foremost the views are fantastic. We had a great time and it was worth the hike. However, this was a tough trail. I hike a lot and I didn’t think this was “moderate” as it is listed as. We did the loop to the overlook and back and it was 7.5 miles total and took us 4 hours. It was 4 miles just to the overlook. Very hilly and I cannot emphasize this enough...IT IS VERY VERY MUDDY!! Wear proper waterproof hiking boots. Luckily we came prepared but I saw several other folks who were not. Overall, it was still a good hike and the views were well worth it. But be prepared for a full day and some rough terrain.

Great trail for beautiful vistas. Unfortunately, we hiked on the backend of the fall colors. Had we hiked 10 days earlier, the views would have been spectacular. Several stretches of very muddy paths. Had to take many detours alongside and into the woods to avoid the muck. Gets better as you approach the lakes.

The Snowbank Trail was cleared in September of 2019. This is a beautiful trail that captures the diversity of terrain in the BWCA. The trail is fairly easy to follow as long as you keep an eye out for the cairns in the rocky portions. Vistas at high points along the trail offer stunning views of Snowbank Lake and surrounds. The campsites are well placed to make a number of different trip lengths possible. Be prepared for wet beaver dam crossings - there are quite a few!

Completed the Bass Lake Trail. A great trail to wander around and enjoy being in the clean air of the north.

Fall colors off the chain.
