We did the 10 mile loop as part of a winter backpacking group. Hiked out to the dispersed campsite south of the lake the first night and then finished the loop the following day. Great trail. First part is along the river, then in woods, followed by a nice loop around the lake. Fresh snow made it a bit tiring to snowshoe, but the sunshine and peacefulness made it all worth it.

EASY AND BEAUTIFUL!!!

tiny section. very swampy, but currently frozen. trees are well marked, and animals use alot of the trail so it's easy to find. had to bail when it got dark.

Just two girls and their dogs loved it

Such a beautiful trail. Ran into some hunters and didn’t go as far as we planned for that reason. Will definitely be back more well prepared!

Nice trail but the recording here crosses private property with clear “No trespassing” signs in places.

Wow! What a great day. I was worried about being cold, so I brought extra stuff, but no problem. It turned out to be 29 and only a dusting of snow on the ground, none on the roads. Yeh. Anyway, I parked on 48th and hiked west. I wanted to check out the trail. Perfect! Excellently marked and no bugs and no overgrowth. Trail has definitely been used. You guys/gals that are complaining about the overgrowth, mud and bugs, you need to go out in the colder weather. I had a great day. maybe 5 miles total. With these perfect conditions, I'd like to check out another section soon and report on it. I'll keep in touch.

Perfect for biking. Great, easy and safe trail. Can spend hours on.

nicest hike I had all year the trail is very well maintained would have walked the whole loop again right there if I have the time

don't like the whole designated campsite scene although the spots are nice I did enjoy the hike

nice walk in the woods

6 mile stretch of the NCT, starting at the Boy Scout Cabin in Lowell, Michigan and ending at Fallasburg Park in Lowell, Michigan. One of the pictures is of the Scout Cabin. Pretty fall trail, crosses two small creeks feels along the way. There is an unexpected, small grove of pine trees that almost feels like being in a chapel. Love the solitude of this trail.

We hiked this the first weekend of October just after a massive rain storm. Trail was super muddy (suck-your-shoes-off muddy in some parts) and a lot of roots (watch your step!). Had no issues with bugs and it was great temp, beautiful leaves changing colors. We had the lake to ourselves! Definitely recommend.

I had a great overnight trip with a couple of friends. Camp sites where maintained and it has a well which is convenient. Also you are able to take short that cuts if down to around 14 miles. Great trail!

First week of November— Trail is muddy and most of the color has already peaked. Plenty of open campsites overnightC only ran into maybe 5-6 groups of hikers. Seaton creek campground is closed, best entry point is red bridge river access. Highly recommend as a two day hike!

Love this loop! Couple of great overlooks and a lot of amazing trail. Ravines, hills, rivers, wetlands, birds, fall colors. You name it, it’s out there. Couple of spots gets confusing as to which way to go but with a good sense of direction, it’s not hard to figure out.

We did the entire 42.5 miles going east to west over the course of four days and three nights: October 25-28. We were fortunate to get great late fall weather. Only saw about 8-10 other backpackers throughout our trip, and had entire campsites to ourselves 2 of the 3 nights (the sites were cramped so it was a treat to have privacy). I’m happy to say I completed the entire trail, but one more night would have been ideal to shorten each leg up by a couple of miles. Next time, I would look to do another three nighter, but start at log slide, and end at miners castle. Although the trail is fast before log slide, it’s comparatively uneventful. Post Miners Castle was a muddy mess; so muddy that it was hard to keep our eye on where the trail was supposed to be, at times. After heavy rains, forget about it. My best advice would be to carefully plan out your trip in advance. Have realistic expectations, don’t try to do too many miles in one day. You must register, book your campsites, and pay online. Then print and carry your permits. We were greeted by an officer at Grand Sauble Visitor Center who requested to view our permits before we even hit the trail. Be aware that some sites do not allow fires (these sites could simply not be options for us in late fall) and some do not have water access. Although, I can say that Potato Patch And Miners Castle are listed as “no water” sites but both had gushing streams just prior to their locations. The overall trail signage was not great, there are no mile markers, and there are not the typical “blue dots” to denote the NCT. I was definitely perplexed by the latter. It certainly would have helped and saved some guessing in the confusing spots. With all of this said, I can’t give less than five stars for this entire experience. It was just amazing to hike, camp, and marvel in the beauty of the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore. Truly a magical place and an experience you will never forget. This trail is a must do for any backpacker!

Nice easy trail, dog friendly

super crowded. lots of dogs OFF leash. There are lots of people trying to learn how to backpack on an easy trail but they haven't learned basic trail etiquette. absolute nightmare in summer and fall. nice for winter hiking.
