Some muddy stretches and downed trees and plenty of steep ascent rewarded with a 180°+ panoramic overlook. We had two friendly dogs greet us at the trailhead and led the way for nearly the entire hike!

It's been raining a lot so the clay mud was extremely slippery. Started off Conley Road section to go to point with family. Trail rain back to the Levi Jackson Water Park alone. Good quick trail run or hike but there are better places in Laurel to go.

All the way to Porter Suspension Bridge and back, had to cross creek through water and suspension bridge is off track on far end (see pic). Fun adventure!

Really fun trail. We went after a rainy day and the trail was still in nice shape. Great views with a little work to see them. I think in the summer the views would be harder to see. Great hike in a beautiful area!

Couple puddles here and there but nothing you can’t go around. Good peaceful trail. Great for trail running

This is a beautiful and peaceful place to enjoy a walk. It is mapped as a loop but their are several other options to extend the walking experience. This is an attraction for the locals and there are always friendly faces offering friendly hellos and small chat about the weather.

I saw several trees knocked down and for the first time ever, heard at least 4 trees fall. Also, the icicles are melting and falling on trail. Be careful!

I combined this with Cedar Grove which is on the State Park trail pamphlet and it made a nice 4 .25 mile loop using the road from the beach instead of goung to the campground. Beach is closed, park is quiet, scenic views thru the trees this time of year. It was exactly what I needed.

Great little trail for what it is. We had to cross a few little streams and my feet did get wet. My more graceful friend managed to stay dry. Good amount of ups and downs. Nice little exercise trail. Some road noise, as you might expect for a trail that follows a road, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely be back.

This was a great hike with a gorgeous overlook at the end of Trail 2. There are multiple other trails within this area that are not on the main AllTrails route recording (the route I took). Once you hit trail 2, it’s about 75% straight up hill until you reach the top. I ended up small step running down those area on the way back because it was so steep and hurt my knees and toes to take my time. I was the only person here for the entire time, but it was the middle of the day during the week and a bit cold.

Nice trail overall... quiet as would be expected in January, but I can imagine that would change in the warmer months. A few nice places to step down to the water if desired.

It's a steep climb but worth it for the views. Not for the faint of heart, I would say that Rock Garden was more like moderate to advanced hiking.

My comments are only covering the Indian Staircase itself. As an average skilled person, who loves to hike, and is only slightly afraid of heights, I feel that the scramble up the staircase is incredibly difficult. I did not understand that the staircase is basically climbing up the side of a cliff, and having never rock climbed or scrambled before, I was absolutely terrified. A person could easily slip and fall and get seriously injured or killed. There is very little to hold onto and only a few footholds to aid you in your climb. The sandstone is slippery and it is hard to pull yourself up in a few areas. I felt like I was going to fall the whole time but was afraid to come back down the staircase - It seemed more dangerous to do so than it was to continue up. When I reached what I thought was the end I sat down and was shaking. Little did I know there was still more to go and for me it was just as hard if not a harder to climb. I finally made it to the top with a little help from my husband and I sat on a log and, well I’m not embarrassed to say, I cried. I felt like I cheated death and am still unsure how I made it to the top. I’m still rating this 5 stars because for someone who has experience in scrambling, rock climbing, and are just thrill seekers, the staircase really is amazing and the views are breathtaking. But if you are just an average joe/Jane who may have some fear of heights, THIS MAY NOT BE FOR YOU!!!

It was a nice trail and very well marked. The climbs were short and steep, but it was nice that there was a little break in between the two elevation gain parts.

Prep hike for backpacking Knobstone Trail. Started hike with backpack filled to 22lbs, including 8lbs of water and about a pound of food. Estimate pack weight was only about 13-15lbs for last few miles of hike. Conditions were sunny and cold with predominantly freeze dried trail surface. 23* at 11am start, 26* high at 1pm with fell to 19* by end of hike.
