This is an awesome trail aside from as of 1/1/20 the road is closed. I opted to road hike to the falls, boring but achieved the goal. falls were roaring. Lots of washout and swampy conditions. There were signs of wildlife ( scat, poop, dung etc etc.....) but none to be seen.

This trail was a blast, but not at all for the faint of heart with the areas of climbing. It is definitely a higher grade scramble up Indian Staircase, and then there is the rope which is probably the easiest way to ascend the rock face at Cloudsplitter. I slid down on my butt to descend it (went just to the left of the rope tree looking down). The All-Trails recording is spot on, but we missed a few turn offs due to chatting and had to backtrack a bit. The Sheltowee Turn off of the main Indian Staircase/Adena loop was a little hard to sort initially, but you just follow the creek bed which goes toward the left downhill.

Trail is in ok shape. Very short. There was a lot of garbage on the trip I took. Lots of graffiti painted on the cliffs. Waterfalls are very nice.

Trail road is currently closed due to muddy conditions. One way is three miles to the entrance of this trail. Is allowed to be accessed only on foot or bike. 12/21/2019

Awesome Day Hike. A few scrambles if you aren’t aware. Sights are worth it. Enjoy!

Great hike, great conditions, my favorite in the gorge! Easiest way to get up cloud splitter is the crevice on the right side, there is a rope tied to the tree to help pull yourself up. Tough to make it up with a dog though.

awesome hike, it's both easy and hard to miss the key forks in the road to be on the correct unmarked path. for staircase, after taking a left at the sign and staying on the curve, there is a small bridge and then the tree marked where you take a right to get to staircase is right there 50 feet ahead. apparently there is a second bridge if you keep going so if you hit that you passed it. for cloudsplitter you just have to make sure you cut back on the sheltowee rather than completing the staircase loop. if you go to Atena Arch and then Indian Arch (I'd recommend to hit them, they don't add much time and Atena is a nice view), it's pretty easy because then you turn back and finish with cloudsplitter... otherwise if you hit the Indian Arch you know your not on the way to cloudsplitter. actually finding cloudsplitter wasn't so obvious for us if it wasn't for the foot traffic, we could see people exiting to ask them. it's on the right after a small stream that may be there. up on cloudsplitter you can take the rope or the crack to get up. the 'secret cave' was actually so cool and very easy to miss. after the crack in the rock to get up, the crack continues if you re-enter it and then you can walk the shoulder width crack until you have up go up into a tunnel around 8ft. up, probably only 6feet of tunnel to get out into the cave opening. the view isn't as good as up top but it is a different view that is nice and it's cool too go into the cave and see the view from there. kind of annoying there is even graffiti in the cave but what can you do. after cloudsplitter you are very close to the road back to the parking lot at the staircase beginning, we used that to shave off a mile or 2, then got pizza at the super popular pizza place that everyone recommends.

awesome loop with wonderful views - a great hike that shows some of the best the gorge has to offer - did the loop counter clockwise and noticed folks who did it clockwise might have had a harder time

Very neat rock bridge! The falls were nice and icy on this day, so there was a giant sheet of ice sitting on top of the creek just beyond the falls. We went around the loop counter clockwise, so all downhill first, and there are tons of cool outcroppings to explore and climb around on. The ascent back up will get the blood pumping but manageable, with some cool views of the valley that the falls sit in.

Easy, pleasant trail that goes through some lovely terrain and takes you through the prettiest little tucked away waterfall. I could easily imagine spending some time lounging nearby with a picnic or a good book in this idyllic woodsy setting.

A new favorite of mine! Once you get to the top, be sure to go off to the right. There’s a skinny opening to climb up. Once you’re up, crawl through the tight area (using the ropes left by past trailers) into a cave! The cave leads to a hole in the side of the rock with a beautiful view. Also climb to the very top. One of the most breathtaking views I’ve seen in this park. Well worth the climb

Most scenic trail in the Gorge. Well worth your time.

Perfect conditions today. My 7yo and 9yo did it with no problems. I’m a dummy and missed the turn from Indian Staircase to Cloudsplitter Trail, which is behind you at the first trail markings after doing the loop around Indian Staircase. So quick backtrack of 1/4 mile, but it allowed us to see Landscape Arch.

All around a super fun, interesting trail and was gorgeous in mid November with the fall colors. We went counter clockwise leaving the easy/less interesting paved mile for the end when our legs were starting to get tired. The ridge portion is stunning!

Challening but not too challenging especially if you enjoy a good scramble.

One of the best vistas in the gorge! Two main ways to enjoy Cloud Splitter, you can summit the cave or crawl into it via a split in the rocks. Through the cave is a bit harder than over the top.

Hiked away in love with this trail. It’s the perfect mix of hiking along with breathtaking views and some challenging moments. We started at Indian Staircase and finished the hike at Cloud Splitter. This is a great way to go because you start where you park. By the book it should have taken us 3 hours or so to hike the trail but we had so much fun it ended up being 4 1/2 hours. I would not recommend Cloud Splitter if you are not experienced with low-level climbing. It is challenging but worth it if you are able. Best hike I’ve been on in awhile.

Great trail. Easy to follow. Nice views along the ridge.
