I recommend parking at the overwatch and starting there. I can imagine this trail is impassable at many times of the year due to river. Take bridge crossing instead of creek at this time. Towards the end i faced the icy river with no way through and had to turn back. The trail overall however was excellent for Iowa. Big elevation gains and scenic views. Wildlife gets active at night

An excellent mix of wooded areas, elevation gains and drops, creeks, deer and wildlife. At times you may be surprised you’re still in Iowa. Beautiful scenery and I had a random dog join me at very start and he tagged around for the whole 6+ miles. We really bonded and named him Dingo. Hope he’s ok

Awesome hike, took a while but we had a random companion we called him Dingo. Blue healer mix super friendly, awesome with my dog Daisy as well, showed us the path and even pushed a deer up to us. Trail was a 8/10 and Dingo was a 10/10

This isn’t a hike, but a nice urban trail loop. Well-maintained and near a busy road (Fleur Dr), its a very popular bike & dog-walking trail. A pretty & safe option on an icy & foggy January morning.

Jan 21, 2020. Trail not at all clear. Narrow footpath in the snow is uneven. Beautiful walk, but the snow added an extra challenge, even on this flat, wide trail.

One of my favorite central Iowa trail loops. The old CCC trail is pretty with has lots of steps & bridges, and I take the bike path past the beach on the way back is a nice easy cool down. Saw bald eagles, deer, & an owl on this mid-January hike. First time doing it in the snow, had no problem as I know the trail well. May not be a good idea for kids or first-timers this time of year - lots of steps that are difficult to see in the snow cover.

Typically free of garbage, always maintained. Be aware at dark of coyotes if you have a dog with you, seen several over the years once darkness arrives. snowmobiling is permitted on these trails.

Very chilly

Nice peaceful trail that travels through the woods down to a ravine and then up again to a beautiful prairie. The two hills can get your heart rate going but other than that it was an easy trail. Can imagine it gets a little slick when it's muddy, but it was manageable with snow on the ground.

Wildcat Den is my favorite hiking spot. This long loop trail takes you through beautiful woodlands, along a creek and through beautiful rock formations. I hike here year round, mid may the spring wildflowers are breathtaking and after a fresh snow it is a winter wonderland.

Snowy quiet and beautiful

Paved trail/road path. While there is timber throughout the park, the trail isn’t shaded. Neatest part about today’s walk was that I was the first person to traverse the entire loop for a couple of days, as evidenced by the lack of human footprints in the dusting of snow covering the trail. Saw a few deer, and wildlife trails in the snow for raccoon, rabbits, and some identified creature (off-leash or wild dog? large cat?).

Trails are marked better on ashworth side then greenwood side so I ended up off trail a bit, but nice trails and easy to follow. Quiet on this cold snowy morning! Lots of deer sightings.

Nice 8 foot wide mowed grass paths a few small hills, a nice viewing tower that is two stories with binoculars. Only downside is that it is pretty near an interstate but if you walk far enough away the interstate noise is pretty minimal.

Attempted to find all of the trails marked in the app & failed. Some are no longer there (evidenced by portions of old concrete trail that has since washed out). Ground frozen in the early morning, suggest ankle support due to deep frozen ruts in the trail - potential ankle-breakers.

Nice hike on an unusually warm January day (50 degrees at 9am). Trail was very muddy and rutted in some places.
