Jan 21, 2020. Trail not at all clear. Narrow footpath in the snow is uneven. Beautiful walk, but the snow added an extra challenge, even on this flat, wide trail.

I have walked this trail dozens of times, but this was my first time out during a mid-winter sunrise. Saw waterfowl & a big, beautiful blue jay - no deer this morning. Wide, easy gravel trail with beautiful views of the Raccoon River and lake. Ground frozen, so not muddy at all.

Great trail! Main trail is wide grass/mud path. No views unless you do the Spurs. I did not quite complete the trail do to short daylight hours.

Mehhh.... A lot of highway noise on a fall day.

A nice circular trail. Mix of gravel and asphalt. Nice views of water through the trees. Loud airplanes every now and then.

Held up pretty well considering the rain we’ve had! Still a favorite!

Most of the trail is closed right now, and looks like it has been for quite awhile

Trail is well maintained, mostly level and a nice jaunt with a dog.

Really nice bike ride for beginning off-road bikes. Some hills, switchbacks, and gentle straight aways. Get up close with side ponds, prairie, farm land, and the big lake. lots of shade as well.

Spent three hours trying to find the trails. All the trails were closed that we found or were on private property

Great canyon trail, rare in Iowa

Nice variety of hiking, for Iowa. Stayed at Fox campsite, nice private walk in sites. Flush toilets and water nearby.

Rode horses there today. Had a great time. The loop took us right at 3 hours on horseback. Just over 50% I’d say in the shade. Was disappointed it never takes you right up to the lake. Maybe some of the little offshoots do, but with 8 miles to go we stuck to the main trail the whole time. There weren’t any great places for the horses to drink. No lake access, no creek crossings (except on a couple bridges) and the staging area for horse trailers does not have any hydrants that we could find. Just be prepared to sideline off the main trail or bring your own water for the horses to drink. Otherwise a great afternoon ride!!

We took a leisurely 3 hour paddle this morning relaxing and enjoying the morning with Grandma and Grandpa. We put in south of the bridge in the tributary nearest the road.

8/3/2019 - Whiterock Conservancy. Second time here and a good hike. Well maintained. One section of the trail around the farm house isn't well marked. Wasn't sure what was trail and what was farm lanes. There is a cost to use the trail. $2/day for hiking. Next to one of the ponds is a animal food dispenser so I assume you need to have quarters on hand. A couple of good workout hills. Several benches along the trail. Occasional shade areas. Beautiful flowers and prairie. One portable outhouse near the ponds that could have used maintenance. Will go again.

Not very often can you search for a murder scene. The Gitchee Manitou murders & kidnapping have been infamous since they happened in 1973. They brought the area to realize that it was not as safe from serious crime anymore. Four teenagers were killed and a fifth was raped. Allen, James, and David Fryer were later convicted of the crimes and sentenced to life in prison. The attack took place on November 17, 1973.

This is a flat trail of fine gravel. It's well taken care of. The only thing I can think of that would improve it would be to cut more "windows" into the woods/ brush between the trail and lake so that walkers can see more of the beautiful lake.

overall nice park... for running you have variety; gravel trail around lake, asphalt road around park, and grass trails all over...bad part on them is many are on sidehills, which can be hard on ankles. if you like hills, there plenty of climb here ,
