This isn’t a hike, but a nice urban trail loop. Well-maintained and near a busy road (Fleur Dr), its a very popular bike & dog-walking trail. A pretty & safe option on an icy & foggy January morning.

Jan 21, 2020. Trail not at all clear. Narrow footpath in the snow is uneven. Beautiful walk, but the snow added an extra challenge, even on this flat, wide trail.

Paved trail/road path. While there is timber throughout the park, the trail isn’t shaded. Neatest part about today’s walk was that I was the first person to traverse the entire loop for a couple of days, as evidenced by the lack of human footprints in the dusting of snow covering the trail. Saw a few deer, and wildlife trails in the snow for raccoon, rabbits, and some identified creature (off-leash or wild dog? large cat?).

Pretty little hike in the snow. Saw several deer and a big owl swooped by us. Looped the pond with my 7-year-old in 2-3” of snow, she managed the trail easily. Park gate was locked, so left my car at the park entrance and walked in.

Mostly flat and paved with two colorfully lit bridges depending on the time of day. Not sure why this one’s considered moderate, though. I’d call it easy. Usually busy.

I have walked this trail dozens of times, but this was my first time out during a mid-winter sunrise. Saw waterfowl & a big, beautiful blue jay - no deer this morning. Wide, easy gravel trail with beautiful views of the Raccoon River and lake. Ground frozen, so not muddy at all.

Lovely location for a slow walk with my geriatric beagle. Went from trail to hard surfaces as the ground was soft & muddy.

January 1, 2020. Best way to start the New Year. No snow but a thin layer of ice on the lake. Trails were good and only a few muddy places. We parked at the County park entrance and hike counterclockwise around the lake. The last 1.4 miles to the car was on paved roads. A little disappointing but still a good hike.

Did a thing today. My first "real" hike in Iowa, like on a hiking trail, not just a long sidewalk walk along the river. Started and finished as a different person. At the start, I was criticizing the trail for being flat and boring. Comparing it Utah hikes. Also, it's not like a real wilderness hike...there were houses all along the trail! I was a little disappointed. When I got a few miles out I started to enjoy it for it's uniqueness and set aside the fact that, yes, it wasn't very remote. But it was still lovely. Didn't really see any wildlife, except a few ducks. But I did see deer tracks, dog tracks, a smaller something tracks, and I think a basilisk trail. I'd give it a 3/5. The "trailhead" was at the 3 mile marker, so that's confusing. Also, I'm a firm believer that trailheads should have a bathroom or outhouse of some sort. Nice views of Indian Creek... And houses. Also, the actual trial looks not like a service road. Things that looked like actual trails were not the main trail. A bit confusing for this poor map reader. So, I guess I'm kinda the Rural Hiker Girl today. #hiking #greatoutdoors #urbanhikergirl #indiancreek #Iowa #hike #hiking #getoutside

Wapsipinicon State Park ...beautiful late fall day hike in early December began with Overlook Trail onto Waterline Trail. Went on to see waterfall n cave on Horse Thief trail which is a neat lil area with much character. Dutch Creek trail led me to my favorite Pine Trail. This is a beautifully groomed ridge trail thru thick forest. Next was Pond trail, Vista, Pipeline, Prairie 2 and River trails (lunch) then back along the Wapsipinicon river to the boat ramp where I began. Trails range from easy to hard ....pick up a map for better exploring. Challenging and rewarding for me

Wapsipinicon State Park has a wonderful variety of trails ranging from woods to prairie. The Pine Trail is my favorite! It's a park that calls you back .....so much to explore. The fall colors are grand and they stay longer along the river. There is also a wonderful play area for the children and a golf coarse for the older kids

A nice circular trail. Mix of gravel and asphalt. Nice views of water through the trees. Loud airplanes every now and then.

Great place to walk with kids and dogs! My daughter loved the playground along the way and my dog loved the little beach. Definitely not for someone looking for a difficult hike, but trail is a nice length that it tuckered everyone out.

Not a bad grassy trail. The perimeter trail has changed at the start. The fall colors look great as the trees were changing.

My wife and I really enjoyed this hike! Great fall colors in the trees. Didn’t see much for wildlife though. Runs along the river and was pretty scenic. Several rock steps and tons of tree roots to navigate. Would do this again if we are in the area.
