I've hiked and biked this trail. Superb sights to see and the lake, too! Wood areas to sand dunes to paved trails. This is a must see trail!

IBSP does a nice job here! I find this trail good for all seasons. The sand dunes nearby are also a sight for those interested in native plants and geology.

A paved almost circle loop not much shade has a picnic area. In order to make it a loop you have to walk on the road which I dislike. Corgi was able to do the trail easily but there is a lot of crickets.

Nice drive along the river.

Disappointed as it was 5 miles of the 7 miles on road. 2 miles through woods was very pretty.

Great Trail Here's an article about the hike from my Blog. https://chrisbunton.blogspot.com/2016/09/review-washington-county-conservation.html

This was a short but very pleasant walk (1.7 miles) in a beautiful nature area. The entrance is off of Mill road about 1.4 miles north of Lake street on the left. There are 3 different areas to park. I parked in the main lot which has a shelter, porta potty and information center. That parking lot is .9 miles down the road that leads into the forest. That is where it ends, with another drive roped off with ‘do not enter’ sign. Once you park, walk past the porta potty and keep walking another maybe 30 feet. Turn toward the left and you’ll see a wide paved path. Thats the beginning of my recording. I crossed the road and came to a stop sign. I then made a right and followed a wide (10+) foot wide paved path all the way to Mill road. Coming back I crossed the street and went around the lake. This path was grass, narrow, still easy and beautiful, the best part of the hike. The only drawback is the planes flying overhead into neighboring O’Hare airport.

Be aware!!!!! Poison oak on the trail!!! My son wound up with it all over his face and he didn’t leave the trail. He played with a few sticks that were in the road!!!!!! Hard to get to a good access point on the trail. And bikers ride way to fast for walkers to be there as well...

short and clean trail. great place to bring kids for a walk

pretty tall, a little overgrown. saw a woodpecker, frogs and a turtle. it has been raining about here so the path was submerged in one part and didn't bring my Merrill's so we turned around.

Do not take the trail at this time. The wooded part of the trail that loops around to get back to the boat docks(where you park) is completely gone and/or flooded. It just isn’t there. We had to continue walking and almost had to go another 9 miles out of our way(already 5 miles in) to get back to parking. Or we could have turned around. Luckily a friendly neighbor picked us up and brought us back to parking. He said he sees it all the time. There should be something posted on the sign at the head of the trail. But there isn’t.

This is my favorite trail in northeastern Illinois. Easy, flat trials that run right along Lake Michigan, so the views are spectacular. The trails are clean and usually not crowded if you stay away from the beach areas. Make sure to bring bug spray! Great place! Highly recommend.

Nice flat loop around a good looking lake. Exposed to sun throughout trail. Has Access to des planes river trail.

Great trail! many birds. however, nearly quarter way through, the trail is washed out. You'll need to back track about 50 feet and find another makeshift trail that will lead you to a series of boulders that you can scramble across to get across the marsh and then return back to the original trail.

Nice for biking, there is a 3 mile paved loop around the lake, lots of trees and scenic lake views. This is a state park and is free to enter.

very pretty walk. great for kids.

great park for running and family activities

Nice wide, well-groomed trails. Plenty of wildflowers, birds, and frogs. Lots of bicyclists since it's a bike trail.

Accessible from the Des Plaines River Trail, Independence Grove is a marvelous year round destination. It has all you could ask for. Great paved and unpaved trails, fishing, boating, beach and food stand. I’ve even been to weddings here. Bike here from the trail, relax while you’re here, and continue on your way. A treasure not to be missed.

Amazing scenery and good Place for fishing and running too! Love the geese!

It was bit overgrown in places but it was a beautiful trail.

Trail has sandy parts and dirt/stone parts. Nice mix of sun and shade with benches located throughout for rest stops. A beautiful array of insects but surprisingly I didn't see or get bitten by a single mosquito. Nice variety of flowers in all areas. Public restrooms are located at both trailheads and there is access to the beach from Dunes trail. I loved both of these trails and will definitely be back!

Easy running. Great scenery.
