Great trail and the end view of the two lakes makes it well worth it. Well marked, wide trail.

wonderful for hiking

After the heavy rains on 1/11/2020 -- suspension bridge out on portion of trail near the cemetery (east side of park). Trail is slick. Wear tall waterproof boots and walking stick if hiking today.

Don’t come here during the winter, you’ll have to ford streams, risking hypothermia and frostbite!

extremely awesome Trail highly recommended rock formations are gorgeous definitely helps to have leaves off of the trees so you are able to see the cliffs much better. The little village just blow is a campground with horses looks like it might be an amazing place to spend a weekend and do some horseback riding it looks like there are guides and places to stay.

Trails closed due to deer hunting, Dec 26-29, 2019. This additional, four-day, hunting season must have been added, maybe because the weather was so good. Park office was closed so info not available in person or by phone. We drove a long way and couldn't hike...

This winding dirt path meanders slowly through the Illinois lowlands. Short steep hills and ravines make for a unique trail. The pathway itself is remarkably level with only the occasional climb. Completely lost count of the number of waterways scattered across the state park. Numerous offshoots on the trail would make it easy to spend the day here.

We had so much fun! Thank goodness for this app because the signs were confusing at times. A dog from the horse camp followed us almost the whole trail. She was awesome. The views are amazing!

This trail could be great, if it was marked clearly. Almost no trailmarkers, and many other trails intersect and merge and diverge! Just blaze the trails with colors, and add some signs at intersections.

Nice 8 mile loop for a trail run, a few hills.

TLDR, it's a great trail for a first time backpacking trip, bring your dog if you like, and send in your campsite registration/fee one week prior to arrival! This trail was great! I've done my fair share of hiking but this was my first time backpacking. The hills here are no joke! I saw a lot of deer, some hawks, and even a bald eagle! The hike starts at the Lorna K. Consis visitors center and goes clockwise in an 11.5 mile loop. It was 7.7 miles to east camp from the start and just before you get to camp you have to go up a huge hill. This is totally worth it though because the 4 or 5 campsites are on top of the hill giving great views all around. The 3.5 or so miles from east camp back to the visitors center are definitely more challenging and involve many steep descents and climbs. Other reviewers have complained about the mud but I'm not docking any stars in that regard for several reasons: It was particularly wet this year, the trail blazes are consistent and well maintained, now that it's getting colder the shaded places have solidified a bit (frozen), and lastly there's not really anything anyone can do about mud! For a shorter easier trip, start at the visitors center and stay at the group campsites.

Really nice trail with some incline. If you're lucky you'll see some Dier, Cayotes, and even a bear (jk about the bear)
