This trail is a waste of time, the views arent even that good for the effort and if you hike down the the hieroglyphs you'll be utterly crushed to find out you could have just driven there and have to go back up many switchbacks. Pick another trail with better views for this amount of effort. p.s. this is coming from someone who has hiked over 20 miles of trail a day so dont think I'm just a pussy who thinks this is hard.

There is the mother of all blow downs about 3 miles in from Track Rock. As others have said, look for the orange flagging tape and scramble up the hill to it. It was a glorious, magical day on a challenging, but well worth the effort trail. The first 1.6 miles are a brutal uphill slog, but then you start running a ridge line with grand views on both sides (in January, at least). Down a saddle or two, past the most evil blowdown I have seen in a very long time and up to the bald. I pushed my limits on this one but made it back to the car before dark.

Great day for a hike. Lake levels were low, Offtrailed it to find geocaches.

Nice trail. Not to rocky. Well maintained. Runs into Dausett Trails if ya want some extra running other than the out and back version.

Great running trail. It’s not really moderate. It’s more of a moderately easy.

Great for trail running! It is a Georgia state park, so pass required - $50 yearly or $5/day

My 21-year old daughter and I completed the 12+ mile round-trip route from the Track Rock Gap parking lot to the summit at Brasstown Bald in 4 ¼ hours yesterday (excluding a lunch break on the summit). On one hand, we found the initial climb to the ridgeline to be a super tough effort and perhaps the most difficult sustained “grind” we have encountered in the N. Georgia mountains. On the other hand, the sky was clear and the payoff was HUGE as the views from that point forward were AMAZING! Definitely a bit of a humbling experience in terms of our perceived level of fitness yet one of those hikes that you will remember for the rest of your life. While it’s not my wife’s cup of tea and she would much rather “feel the burn” at yoga class, I can’t wait to take my son!

Pigeon Hill side is a great hike. Beautiful and a little challenging at times. Once over the top of Kennesaw, the way down and back are way too heavily trafficked by large groups and families. If you’re looking for a great walk in the woods, stay in the Burnt Hickory/Pigeon Hill side of Kennesaw. Leave the battlefield for field trips.

Nice trail. Very easy. Not much elevation.

Today i completed this one after running out of daylight last weekend. My pace is probably considered slow. However, I made it. First mile and a half difficult. Many breaks to catch my breath. Probably at 1500 of the 2400 elevation gain. From there, a little down but then up in two cycles to get to 2400. Views are probably good but we had alot of fog. Their is a part of the trail that is washed out. However, just watch your footing and you'll be fine.

Lake side access with beach coves. Nice cover.

Boots not needed for this nature trail. Super easy for the seasoned hiker, and not sure why it is rated as moderate.

Started at the Arkaquah trail and did the full hike up to Brasstown Bald. I'm in my late 20s and 140 lbs and my buddy is in his 30s. We're both in good shape and it took us 5.25 hours to get there and back going at a moderate pace. Absolutely wonderful hike! The beginning is killer, but it's totally worth it and a fun challenge. As others have mentioned, part of the trail is obscured by some fallen trees, but if you look up the hill you'll note the ribbon tied around a tree to mark the alternate route. It's a bit of a slippery climb, but you'll reconnect with the trail and be on your way! Highly recommend this one!

Started at track rock gap parking lot and went up the arkaquah trail to brasswood bald summit for a total of 12.2 miles, taking a little over 5 hours. Great trail and views. Only negative is lack of consistent marking of the trail but overall easy to follow. There is a section on the uphill that blow out, creating about 30 foot uphill muddy scramble, which is ok if you’re into that. This was overall a very fun hike and I’d do it again.

Great trail! The only downside to this 12 mile out and back hike is that Brasstown blad is the most touristy mountain top ever. We hiked the 6 miles from the Start of Arkaquah trail only to end up at a parking lot full of tourist that drove there. Their is even a shuttle that will take them the rest of the way to the top.... I don’t know about you but when I hike it’s to enjoy the outdoors with my dog and friends. Not to end up at a tourist hot spot.

Stunning!! I loved this trail. The reason for four stars and not five, is because the trail's condition in a few places. Length: Fantastic. Long enough to provide so many different experiences/views. Laurel Tunnels, excellent forest, great views, etc. Always "something around the next corner" experience. Total time in/out: 6 hours. That includes spending 25 minutes at Brasstown Bald and a snack break at a summit. Condition: 95% of the trail is impeccable. The blow out is rough but completely doable. It was wet today making it a little extra challenging. If you go when it is wet (rained a few days before your trip), anticipate additional difficulty. Other parts of the trail within .5 mile either direction of the blowout are a challenge because of narrowed trail and tendency to be wet. Could use some work as there are steep drops where the path narrows. The rest of the trail is in great condition. At blowout, as those below note, go under tree and go immediately up. It has been worked enough, it is an obvious up. Views: Amazing!!! Great views at top of the first summit (coming from Track Rock.) I caught it when there were clouds down in the canyons and it looked like an ocean of clouds with peaks peeking through. Wonderful. There are about 3-5 areas with really great panoramic views that will stop you in your tracks. Water: Virtually none. Carry your own. Plenty of opportunity to refill at Brasstown Bald for your return trip.
