There is a workaround for the closed gate. Trees are down but not completely blocking the trail. If you have a chainsaw then bring it with you. If we all work together then they’ll stop closing trails. Be prepared to turn around BEFORE you ascend the hill at the end, you do not want to back down that part.

went up the day after the big storm blew through. no trees down, but plenty of mud and some pretty deep standing water. no major issues - jeep gladiator Rubicon. we got our to walk around half way and were frightened off by hunters popping off rounds pretty nearby. great views at top.

Let’s get this straight, u ignored a road closed sign and r upset with the ranger? He should have simply executed u on the spot. Dumb ass.

Fun off road driving trail that’s not too long and enjoyable. The recent rain left some muddy spots and puddles to drive through that the kids really enjoyed it.

tray Mountain road is an awesome trail however the end of the trail where the road closed signs are nailed to the trees, Forestry Service has begun installing metal gate frame to actually close the end off to vehicles as of New Years Day. :( they are set in a ton of concrete each so i guess no one gets the idea of running over them. Anyone have any idea as to when they may be possibly reopening the road. Also discovered the forestry service road that goes up to Horse Trough falls is still closed as well and it has been closed for over a year now.

Lots of fun in my son's Tacoma. Variety of rocks, mud, dry creek bed, and challenging obstacles for a 2WD truck. We had a blast.

The downed trees previously mentioned have been removed. Clear trail with exception of a few low widow-makers. Fun afternoon with some small puddles after the rain.

Overall about a 4/10 regarding required off road experience needed. Easy to ID the trail head heading West to East. Muddy ruts, water crossing and some nice side roads. The side roads can be a quick off road obstacle which returns quickly to Tray Mountain Road. Saw some Road Closed signs but with open gates to continue down Tray Road, instead of risking a ticket my first time I went down Indian Grave Gap Rd. This road was much more paved and was a quick drive back to Unicoi Turnpike. I’ll be back

Grew up by Currahee, always a great place to hike. Wonderful views at the top

Beautiful hike, but wouldn't consider it a trail since it is completely a dirt/gravel road.

The trail is a well defined gravel road and there were a few cars that traveled up to the top today but overall it was quiet. Yes, the last mile is tough but worth it. Highly suggest visiting Camp Toccoa adjacent to the trailhead to learn more about the history of the trail as it was a training run for WWII soldiers.

I've marked this "off Trail" and "overgrown" because that was what we were looking for. We found a side trail that was not closed and without a lot of use. Then it became very fun and interesting. The views along the main trail was awesome and they had many hiking trails and a few areas to camp. A very nice place to visit or take the family to enjoy nature.

After reading other posts, I was concerned about the trail being closed. Tried to call the ranger for a status update, but no luck reaching him. So, I just decided to try it and watch out for any "road closed" signs. The main road/trail was completely open. Zero issues. There were several side trails that were closed, and plenty of side trails that were not closed. Saw several campers with fires. This would be a fantastic place to camp. Overall, the drive is incredibly beautiful. Take your time, take trail snacks and/or picnic lunch. Enjoy some more challenging side trails. I'm going to do this trail again today and take my wife.

Lots of leaf coverage obscuring the rocks. If on a bike ride carefully. Very doable though. There is a tree that’s down about half a mile from the end. Jeeps/trucks won’t be able to pass.

Fun easy trail for anyone with a little off road experience. I did this on my KTM 1090 Adventure R with no problems. Gets pretty rocky once you pass the plane crash site.

The hike isn't to strenuous. It gets steep near the end.

I was looking to do some decent offroading and this Trail was rated moderate. We pulled over at the beginning of the trail and shortly seen all sorts of cars and even vans going by and knew it was most likely rated easy. Sure enough it was quite smooth and easy going. There was many hiking trails which I'm sure was awesome.
