Went on this today on my new RadWagon . Was really impressed . Clean and dog park off to the side will be back

Great trail. I enjoy it for riding bikes or walking. Plenty of benches for breaks and nature viewing areas . Love it

Wet, but interesting hike. It’s a quiet winter hike. We’ve seen Pygmy rattlers twice on Hontoon, so stay alert.

Short trail, lots of mosquitos and a broken bridge that you have to get in the water to get through.

Definitely not one of my favorite trails. The sinkhole trail is down for construction so I took the loop trail that goes by the “lake” which is more so a swamp—and not a scenic swamp ha. Lots of bugs as well!

This trail was really something. I ended up walking a great deal further, through an adjacent park, because I missed the “nature trail” sign. But there is a boardwalk and a tower in the woods, plus a whole lot of interesting trees, animals, and flowers.

Maybe I’ve been taking Edward Abbey too seriously. He’s all I could think about on this early morning’s hike through Florida’s interior. How he’d laugh at whomever used the sacred W-word in naming this place, contiguous roadless acres be damned. How appalled he’d feel at the signs discouraging adventurers from going off trail: “Anyone who trespasses on this property commits a crime.” How he might react - perhaps even violently - toward the motorboat pandemic that seems to have overtaken this sacred, marshy land. Suburban crawl across a waterlogged state. Vegetation bloated with the excess of fluid. People bloated with the excess of excess. O, mellifluous nature, make way. Chorus of birds, make way. Rustle of palms, make way. Pattering of reptiles, make way. Make way, make way — Florida man has come to stay. Make way, make way, cubic centimeters rule the day. I am grateful for this place. For this tranquility, this navel orange, these natural harmonies all around. Most of all, for whomever saw fit to protect this space — thank you. May you continue to hold off the ravenous developers who encroach upon these peaceful sacred borders. And may every motorboat and motorboat operator cease to exist. May the whine of internal combustion disturb this place no more. An excess of horsepower in a land without horses. But maybe I’ve just been taking Edward Abbey too seriously.

This is a great park with well maintained trails. It is very flat, but what can you expect from Florida! The trails weave through wetlands across boardwalks and through pine and Cypress forests. I highly recommend this place!

I wish there was a reply button for all of your comments. All the reviews have given me a better idea on how to go about hiking/camping this trail. This is a question I have for the ones who have camped before on this trail. Which spot did u camp at and was there any issues with incoming tides/flooding? I’d hate to set up and in the middle of the night be ankles deep in water surrounded by a gator/croc. Thanks!

I kind of dug this park in spite of a few flaws. It definitely helps to know what you're getting into beforehand, which is a bare-bones slice of nature with no facilities or amenities that often times doesn't have much to look at aside from open spaces. It has some aggressive biting insects, a good amount of traffic noise coming from I-275, and trails that have some mud and overgrowth and can often resemble service roads. That said, it proved to be a fun change from the much more polished parks of the area. The Tampa Bay area has a number of terrific nature parks that should probably be visited before this one, but anyone looking for something a bit more primitive, undeveloped and isolated could find this place to their liking. There's a good amount to explore here, even if not all of it is that interesting. Two other things to remember: 1. Be careful about what directions your GPS gives you to get to the trailhead, as mine at first sent me back onto I-275 and back across the bridge 2. This is definitely a place to have Alltrails active, as there are a number of side trails that can turn this place into a maze, even though it has a number of trail markers. The Blue Loop is the most picturesque and enjoyable portion of this park, as well as the most shaded.

Nice little loop trail. It’s in Anastasia state park so there is a fee.

We LOVED biking this trail! Probably even better than riding in an airboat ride through the Everglades! We saw over 50 alligators! Many turtles and beautiful birds or many species. It was flat and easy. I liked biking the whole path! Though you don’t see as many alligators after passing the observation, we were still pretty close to several. I would recommend biking the trail vs the tram. whenever we passed the tram, it was moving pretty fast! Not sure you would have seen the many baby alligators that we saw! I look forward to returning to this beautiful trail!

Really beautiful. Could be a great short trail if the bridge gets reopened. Not stroller friendly, despite me shoving ours on it. :) The Indian mounds are kinda cool, too.
