Mostly dry today, just a few puddles that can be easily avoided.

Great hike! It can get very crowded especially on the weekends or nice days. Best to go early morning or when it rains:). Can get very muddy when wet.

icy and muddy. one you gevto the AT the trail is covered is frozen bushes. right near the junction of the at and under mountain trail there is a tree to climb under. there is 1 bush I had to climb over. the rest you can push through. highly recommend micro spikes. I went without for the first mile and it was slippery. made much better time with spikes.

Red marker Great view of the valley Easy, one area for possible scramble for a novice especially during the wet

This was a really fun hike, and I was very happy to finally stand on top of the impressive cliffs that I've looked up countless times at while driving along Route 8. The views overlooking the Naugatuck River Valley are fantastic, and there were some great sections of trail too. The Blue Trail, paralleling the river at the bottom of the gorge and the Waterfall where the Blue and White Trails merge were highlights. I felt I got a lot out of this hike without having to work too hard for it. Downsides: There seems to be a shooting range nearby, as I could hear the distant sound of gunfire pretty much the entire time. When I couldn't hear gunshots I could hear the highway. Also, two people on dirt-bikes whipped past me at one point on a walking path, so be on your toes. If you are approaching from Route 8 south, the directions from this link will bring you to a washed out road next to the train tracks. My car could not make it to the trailhead from this direction, so I walked an extra 0.7 each way. This extra walking is easy and pleasant enough, but give yourself an extra half hour if you don't have a high clearance vehicle. There was minimal snow on the trails when I went. Overall a nice hike!

Amazing views. Beautiful. Peaceful. Serene.

pretty scenery. easy hike for family.

Awesome views, a lot of ridge line to walk, and the climbs aren't too bad.
