Hiked on 1/21 in the morning. Trail was mostly dry with some mud and ice. Trail was pretty with views to the east of the City and plains. Enchanted Forest portion was beautiful in the trees with a frozen creek.

Great hike. Went on a Friday in January and virtually had the trail to ourselves. Micro spikes and poles were essential as it was daily snowy and icy in places. Gradual incline most of the way with a steep push the last .25 mile. View from the top was great and worth the effort.

Little icy and muddy. You may want spikes

Heavy Snow! But I was grateful that cross country skiers had made a path through the trail before me. It was a challenge uphill for 2.6 miles but a breeze coming back. I had wanted to make the waterfall and the whole trail but the hour was growing late and I wax alone. I did walk out onto the lake but followed some deep tracks someone had made before me. Beautiful trail! Great workout!

The best part about this trail is it will take you to the castle gardens, which are awesome clay formations to explore!

Nice views and terrain. Enough inclines I was inclined to take a break or two. Friendly bikers common on trail. Parts were icy. Good to get there before sundown this time of year! Saw one deer today.

A little ice and mud but nothing too crazy for January. if you take your dog be prepared for muddy dirty paws.

Gorgeous trail I thought was fairly easy - no scrambles or technical aspects. Trail was wide, well groomed, and snow packed the entire way. Strongly recommend traction devices as it was a little slippery in the few uphill bits and snow covered the trail for the full length. We went on Sun of the MLK day weekend and saw a couple cars at the trailhead, but didn’t see anyone on the trail. It was so serene with lots of great views. It’s always great idea to call or stop at the visitors center during winter where they can give you information on trail conditions and the best route to trailheads. They advised us that Mountain Base Rd was closed. The alt route was to continue up hwy 46 to 119, then take a right at 119 and continue to Gap Rd. Take a rt on Gap Rd and then you can catch the trailhead off of Reverend’s Ridge campground or continue down a bit and catch a trailhead at Panorama pt.

I agree with those who said to go counter clockwise- it made the snowy and icy parts bearable though we saw runners go the opposite way as well so as long as you have traction, you’re golden. We enjoyed this semi easy hike and great views 90% of the time.

Since this route was added to AllTrails, a route change was made at the crossing of 93 at the Matthews/Winters TH. A new concrete trail takes trail users to a crosswalk that is far more visible to traffic. This route is an excellent survey of the Front Range foothills featuring great views, wildlife, geology, and human history.
